Overview

The Cleaning Team is part of Campus Services located within the Facilities Department, and is responsible for the cleaning of all University sites and University managed facilities.

The post holder will be allocated to work at a particular University site, but may be required to work at any of the university sites, depending on service need.

The Cleaning Team have been awarded Centre Status for BICSc, (British Institute Cleaning Science) which enables in house training to a national standard. Cleaners not already BICSc qualified must attend the necessary training on appointment in order to gain the qualification.

2 positions available for 25 hours a week:

Monday to Friday 2pm to 7pm

1 position available for 12 hours a week:

Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. 7am to 10am

The Henwick Grove site in St Johns is located close to the city centre in Worcester and is within 43 acres. It is characterised by relatively low-density development with non-residential and residential buildings of a range of ages and designs. There are extensive playing fields and the campus is attractively landscaped. The residential student Halls provides 789 bed spaces.

The second site in the City Centre is the former Worcester Royal Infirmary, which is vacant following the relocation of the hospital. The site has an area of 22 hectares, is within walking distance of the St Johns site at Henwick Grove and has potential for a mixed use development and currently has student Halls providing 176 bed spaces.

The University also have a number of satellite sites ranging from a sports arena and sports fields to accommodation.
Campus Services are based within the Facilities Department, which covers a wide range of services within the University of Worcester, including Halls of Residence, Cleaning, Estates, Porters, Grounds, Reception, Commercial bookings and Catering. We also work very closely with Student Services supporting the University Community Development Workers.

Students living and studying on campus come from a range of backgrounds, cultures and communities and the primary task of the Facilities department is to ensure all University of Worcester students live in a harmonious, secure, tolerant and respectful environment conducive to learning and personal development.

The Worcester Arena (12 court venue) compliments the University St John’s Campus Sports Centre with 6 court hall, fitness centre, full size sand filled and 3G astro turfs, the McClelland Centre, the Riverside Centre, Batttenhall Playing Fields, and The Moors Playing Field. Run in conjunction with the Institute of Sport and Exercise Science, the Sport Facilities Management Team cater for the recreational and sport demands of the academic programme; Student Union sport and British Universities Colleges Sport (BUCS), and Community sport and leisure activities. The Sports Facility Management staff play a key role in creating, supporting and developing the numerous ISES partnerships and networks.

Main duties

1. To ensure that a high level of cleanliness is maintained throughout the University on a daily basis.

2. To be responsible for an area or areas of the University and to clean to the frequency and standards set out in the area/s you are responsible for (allocated areas may change depending on service requirements).

3. To ensure cleaning standards and procedures are adhered to.

4. To use cleaning materials appropriately as instructed, using them economically and informing the Line Manager when stocks are low.

5. To ensure that tools and equipment are in good working order, reporting any faults to the Line Manager.

6. To empty and clean bins and remove waste to the designated area, including the separation of waste, i.e. recycling.

7. To clean internal glass and internal and external door glass, where practicable ensuring windows and doors are closed and lights switched off.

8. To clean as required toilet areas, floors and stairways.

9. To report to the Line Manager any defects seen which are likely to affect security i.e. broken/cracked window, etc.

10. To use electrical and mechanical equipment, floor polishers, steam cleaners, etc. after appropriate training. An element of high level cleaning will be required.

11. To use only approved cleaning materials in accordance with manufacturer printed instructions and COSHH regulations.

12. To be aware of your responsibilities for Health & Safety including that of others and follow relevant instruction/guidance.

13. To be committed to BICSc and attend the necessary training, as required.

Physical requirements:
This job involves walking, climbing stairs, use of floor cleaning equipment and some light lifting for which a suitable level of physical fitness is required.

The Classroom Assistant will support the classrooms serving children from ages 0-3 years and creating and maintaining a safe and stimulating environment for young children. This position is responsible for daily care of the children enrolled in his/her class. Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

AA degree, preferably in the field of Early Childhood Education of Child Development from an accredited public or private institution of higher education. Child Development Associate (CDA) credential for Preschool Caregivers required or an equivalent credential that addresses comparable competencies; or must obtain the credential within one year of employment as a Classroom Assistant II.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Must have (or be willing to obtain) training and experience necessary to develop consistent, stable, and supportive relationships with very young children. Ability to work as part of a multi-program/disciplinary team in providing a variety of services to children and families. Experience working with children from low income families. Valid First Aid/CPR card, food handler’s card, negative TB test, and clear criminal background check required.

Job Description

 

The Cooperative Institute for Mesoscale Meteorological Studies (CIMMS) seeks to fill a Student Assistant position to contribute to CIMMS Meteorological Phenomena Identification Near the Ground (mPING) project (http://mping.ou.edu/).

The principal duties of this position are:

  • Develop technical expertise with the Python/Django RESTful system and the packages and tools used in the mPING project
  • Develop a plan for system improvements and changes to the mPING system with CIMMS personnel
  • Document the project by way of creating appropriate wiki pages
  • Potentially work on creating automated backup and system monitoring tools
  • Potentially make modifications and improvements to the iOS and Android mPING apps
  • Potentially develop new display web tools for research purposes

    Job Requirements

     

    Required Education: Must be currently enrolled in the current Fall 2018 Term as a student at the University of Oklahoma. Hiring contingent upon verification of current student status.

    • Must attach Fall 2018 oZONE class schedule.

    Skills:

    • Strong computer programming skills with particular emphasis on Python and PostgreSQL
    • Strong familiarity with the UNIX/Linux operating environment and web services such as Nginx, Django and RESTful web applications
