Fixed term Student Engagement Assistant


Salary

Grade 4, £19,202 per annum to £21,414 per annum


Main Purpose of the Post

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and proactive person who has a passion for delivering excellence. You will be part of a small team to support the College of Engineering in the achievement of its goals relating to student engagement and student experience to provide a positive and vibrant campus culture and community.

The key purpose of the role is to assist with the planning, development and execution of events and activities, supporting student clubs and societies and driving action plans for all taught and postgraduate research provision across the College of Engineering, and more widely for students at the Bay Campus.

The postholder will also be responsible for a range of administrative tasks related to student experience, student engagement and student events.

The successful candidate will have experience of working in a customer focused setting with previous experience of working with students, or a good understanding of the expectations of university students. The role holder will have excellent communication and organisational abilities and IT skills with the capability to work to tight deadlines.

You will be able to deal with a range of different situations along with a good knowledge of administrative systems and processes. Candidates should be highly organised, proactive, and capable of working independently and have a true passion and energy for delivering excellence.


Main Duties

1.       Collate student feedback from a number of feedback platforms such as, but not limited to, UNITU, National and University student surveys, module feedback and maintaining records of issues, progress, response and resolutions of topics.  

2.       Support the organisation and operation of student events, including but not limited to cultural, sporting, intellectual and social activities, work with student societies, student exhibitions for both undergraduate and postgraduate students.

3.       Work closely with the Student Engagement Co-ordinator to support Student-Staff Committees and student focus groups for undergraduate and postgraduate students.  

4.       Take and write up minutes from meetings as and when required.

5.       Promoting and supporting the ‘Together We Changed’ initiative.

6.       Assist with student communications and promotion of events using a range of platforms including social media, , College website, Blackboard, in addition to creating and distributing weekly lecture announcements.

7.       Work closely with academic colleagues, professional service colleagues and students to support the welcome and induction process across all levels of study.

8.       Work closely with the Student Engagement Co-ordinator and Students’ Union to actively recruit, promote and engage Student Representatives.

9.       Support the production of College handbooks.

10.   Contribute to a culture of change and continuous service improvement within the College.

11.   Work closely with the other teams in the Administration Office to share knowledge, information, best practice and to provide support as and when required.

12.   To keep fully up to date with rules and regulations and to work with the Management Team to ensure that the relevant policies and procedures are implemented in the College of Engineering.

13.   To fully engage with the University’s Performance Enabling and Welsh language policies

14.   To promote equality and diversity in working practices and to maintain positive working relationships.

15.   To lead on the continual improvement of health and safety performance through a good understanding of the risk profile and the development of a positive health and safety culture.

16.   Any other duties as directed by the Head of College / Department or their nominated representative expected within the grade definition.

17.   To ensure that risk management is an integral part of your day-to-day activities to ensure working practices are compliant with the University’s Risk Management Policy.

Posting Summary

The Classroom Assistant will support the classrooms serving children from ages 0-3 years and creating and maintaining a safe and stimulating environment for young children. This position is responsible for daily care of the children enrolled in his/her class. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: physical caregiving, following an age appropriate daily plan, and facilitation of supportive relationships with co-workers, parents, and students. The Classroom Assistant II ensures, supports, and promotes each child’s safety, health, and development in cooperation with their families and other early childhood professionals in a manner consistent with NAEYC, NJDHS and child care licensing regulations

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

AA degree, preferably in the field of Early Childhood Education of Child Development from an accredited public or private institution of higher education. Child Development Associate (CDA) credential for Preschool Caregivers required or an equivalent credential that addresses comparable competencies; or must obtain the credential within one year of employment as a Classroom Assistant II.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Must have (or be willing to obtain) training and experience necessary to develop consistent, stable, and supportive relationships with very young children. Ability to work as part of a multi-program/disciplinary team in providing a variety of services to children and families. Experience working with children from low income families. Valid First Aid/CPR card, food handler’s card, negative TB test, and clear criminal background check required.

Job Description

 

The Cooperative Institute for Mesoscale Meteorological Studies (CIMMS) seeks to fill a Student Assistant position to contribute to CIMMS Meteorological Phenomena Identification Near the Ground (mPING) project (http://mping.ou.edu/).

The principal duties of this position are:

  • Develop technical expertise with the Python/Django RESTful system and the packages and tools used in the mPING project
  • Develop a plan for system improvements and changes to the mPING system with CIMMS personnel
  • Document the project by way of creating appropriate wiki pages
  • Potentially work on creating automated backup and system monitoring tools
  • Potentially make modifications and improvements to the iOS and Android mPING apps
  • Potentially develop new display web tools for research purposes
  •  

     

    Job Requirements

     

    Required Education: Must be currently enrolled in the current Fall 2018 Term as a student at the University of Oklahoma. Hiring contingent upon verification of current student status.

    • Must attach Fall 2018 oZONE class schedule.

    Skills:

    • Strong computer programming skills with particular emphasis on Python and PostgreSQL
    • Strong familiarity with the UNIX/Linux operating environment and web services such as Nginx, Django and RESTful web applications

    Department Preferences:

    • Optional experience with mobile app development on Android and/or iOS is a plus
    • Experience debugging and/or trouble shooting software and hardware issues
    • Experience working with complex software applications and web-based communications
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Ability to work both independently and cooperatively with others
