University Program Board is a student-run organization that strives to enhance the overall JMU experience by providing a variety of creative, educational and entertaining programs that appeal to diverse audiences.

We believe organizational involvement empowers students. Therefore, we provide opportunities, resources and support so that students become educated and enlightened citizens who lead meaningful and productive lives.

1. Arrive in early August for pre-service training
2. Stay late/return early for academic breaks/vacations, as deemed necessary
3. Create and maintain a schedule designed to meet assistantship requirements
4. Support the mission of Student Activities & Involvement, University Unions, Student Affairs, and JMU
5. Perform designated tasks in a timely, organized and professional manner
6. Participate in board selection process
7. Plan and facilitate one-on-one meetings with designated board members
8. Provide constructive feedback to board members and seek feedback from them
9. Provide motivation and encouragement for UPB members
10. Attend UPB sponsored events
11. Communicate consistently and honestly with supervisor
12. Maintain a positive attitude about job responsibilities
13. Work to be an effective team member
14. Request assistance and support when approaching new situations
15. Gain an understanding of policies and procedures
16. Attend conferences, workshops, and professional development meetings as deemed appropriate
17. Be available during regular business hours, evenings and weekends.

Must be enrolled in a JMU Graduate Program.

Students may apply to a graduate assistantship prior to being accepted into a graduate program. However, to be eligible to receive an assistantship upon entry into a graduate program, the following criteria must be met:

• The student must be conditionally or unconditionally accepted into a graduate program. Students who are provisionally accepted will not be eligible until they achieve conditional or unconditional acceptance into their program.
• The students must have an official transcript on file indicating completion of a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution.
• After receiving an assistantship, the student must maintain at least a 3.0 graduate GPA in order to retain or reapply for the assistantship.

These are minimum criteria. Graduate program coordinators have the right to impose additional criteria if they see fit.
