Normal Work Schedule: A flexible schedule is required to include evening/overnight, weekend, and holiday hours. Applicants must be available Tuesday evenings from 8-10pm for staff meetings and departmental trainings.

Job Summary: Housing and Residential Communities is currently seeking qualified applicants for the Resident Advisor (RA) position. Applicants must be full-time UA students in good standing, have completed two full semesters at time of employment; and must meet specific GPA requirements.
Resident Advisor (RA)
Responsibilities for this position include:
- Building relationships with the residents of an assigned floor/building
- Connecting residents to resources on-campus
- Serving as a role model
- Assisting with building openings in August and/or building closings in May
- Serving on-call to respond to after-hours emergencies
- Confronting violations of community living standards in order to maintain a safe and healthy living environment
If offered a position, the RA must be able to return for Fall Staff Training on Thursday, August 1, 2019 by 1:00pm. Active participation in training and continued learning experiences is essential to a staff member’s success, and therefore, all training and continued learning experiences throughout the term of employment are mandatory.
The RA position will participate in all HRC and community training sessions and workshops, including but not limited to in-service workshops throughout the academic year.
The RA position will serve as a role model to residents and promote civility and inclusiveness within the community.
The RA position will support the mission of HRC, Student Affairs, and The University of Alabama.
The RA position will adhere to and enforce all HRC Community Living Standards and UA Student Code of Conduct.
The RA position will support the HRC Residential Curriculum.
Additional Department Summary: To compensate RAs for their time and dedication, they receive a monthly stipend of $150.00 for the first two semesters of service. Additionally, RAs receive an assigned bed space of our choosing free of charge. Stated differently, a student with a housing related scholarship who accepts an RA position will only receive the aforementioned monthly stipend.
Required Minimum Qualifications: To be eligible for a fall 2019 HRC Student Staff position, all applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be a full-time UA undergraduate student (minimum 12 hours per semester)
- Be enrolled in degree-seeking program
- Have completed 2 full semesters at the time of employment
- Be in good judicial, financial, and academic standing as defined by the University of Alabama and the college in which they are enrolled
- Be able to return to campus for HRC Student Staff Training and Move-in on August 1, 2019 by 1:00pm
- Be available to attend weekly staff meetings and departmental trainings on Tuesday evenings between 8pm-10pm
- Have an overall 2.65 GPA or higher, which will be checked prior to employment and each semester of employment with HRC
If selected, final candidates must be able to live on-campus in a designated residence hall space assigned by Housing and Residential Communities.
The University of Alabama provides co-ed residence halls as well as halls or floors designated specifically for male or female students. Due to our resident populations, some halls may require a female or male staff member based on its designation. In order to aide HRC in identifying candidates for a female or male designated hall, you will be asked to indicate whether you are male or female as part of the application process. Otherwise, gender is not considered in the selection process.

Preferred Qualifications: The successful candidate will be organized, possess the ability to interact and communicate with a diverse group of people, work cooperatively on a team, possess ability to maintain confidentiality, and plan and implement activities designed to meet the needs of the residents on assigned floors/buildings.
The HRC Student Staff position cannot be easily translated into hours worked per day or week because of the unique nature of working in residence halls. The position requires a genuine personal commitment, flexibility, and an open understanding of the unpredictable nature of the work.
Enrollment Requirements: Applicants must meet enrollment requirements to be eligible for on-campus student employment. Applicants must be enrolled in a UA degree program and meet minimum credit hour requirements during the academic year: Undergraduate Students must be registered for at least 6 credit hours during fall/spring semesters; Graduate Students must be registered for at least 4.5 credit hours during fall/spring semesters; International Students must be registered full-time (Undergraduate = 12 credit hours, Graduate = 9 credit hours) during fall/spring semesters. Enrollment requirements must be maintained for the duration of on-campus employment. Individual hiring departments and programs may also have additional eligibility requirements for employment.
