Essential Functions:

This position coordinates prestigious international affairs scholarships, including all aspects of the US Department of Education (US ED) Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) scholarships for the Asia and Latin America FLAS grants, Gilman, Boren, Critical Language Scholarships, and the Kennedy Center Global Opportunity Scholarships (GOS). The Coordinator is responsible for advertising the scholarships, assisting students with application preparation, coordinating faculty selection committees, submitting semi-annual FLAS reports to US ED and maintaining accurate accounts of all money dispersed. This position also serves as a coordinator and de facto point of contact for other international scholarships (Fulbright, etc.).

Scholarship Advisement: 

  • Advise, coach, and guide students by developing and directing strategies for successful application writing across all scholarships
  • Determine students’ individual academic and career plans and suggest writing and rhetorical strategies for presenting these plans in their application narrative
  • Offer editorial suggestions on students’ draft essays to improve clarity and strengthen the overall impact of their written work. 
  • Coordinate with other campus writing resources and recommend students who require additional help with grammar and detailed editing.
  • Create a learning environment for students where they feel comfortable examining their writing and exploring more effective strategies for presenting their plans, their strengths and their accomplishments.
  •  Be informed about and recommend other scholarship options while helping students determine fit and viability.

Scholarship Marketing: 

  • Direct effective outreach on international scholarships across campus to students and faculty
  • Create and provide final approval for all messaging relating to international affairs scholarships
  • Prepare and present weekly info sessions in the Kennedy Center. 
  • Hold regular office hours to answer students’ questions and discuss their applications.
  • Coordinate with Kennedy Center Communications staff to create posters, flyers, digital ads, and marketing collateral. 
  • Arrange distribution, including for ads to be displayed on digital screens across campus, flyers to be distributed to key faculty, staff and classes. 

Scholarship Management: 

  • Oversee the scholarship payment of scholarship money to students, including determining enrollment, eligibility, and stipend calculations, in accordance with BYU and US ED policies.
  • Coordinate the activities of selection committees, including pre-screening, faculty reviews, decision summaries, and competition announcements.
  • Track scholarship recipients’ coursework progress, arrange pre and post-language testing (FLAS), and maintain regular correspondence with all current scholarship recipients and alumni.
  • Prepare and submit US ED reports and coordinate with BYU Grant Accounting(FLAS)
  • Meet monthly with Kennedy Center Controller to review budgets and monitor award amounts through BYU financial systems.

Qualifications:

     Minimum education/experience required:   

  • Bachelor’s degree plus editing, advising, and significant foreign language skills 
  • Three years in higher education administration or equivalent education or experience 

     Preferred:

  • Graduate school experience
  • Marketing experience 
  • Graduate level research and writing experience

     Skills, abilities, knowledge, licenses, certifications:

  • Broad experience with foreign languages and cultures
  • Thorough understanding of BYU majors and course offerings
  • High level of interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Advising and coaching abilities and knowledge
  • Familiarity with current career and academic options available to students and the general requirements for each
  • Familiarity with spreadsheet design and basic accounting
  • Ability to operate independently and effectively in professional settings and conferences representing BYU programs and students

Posting Summary

The Classroom Assistant will support the classrooms serving children from ages 0-3 years and creating and maintaining a safe and stimulating environment for young children. This position is responsible for daily care of the children enrolled in his/her class. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: physical caregiving, following an age appropriate daily plan, and facilitation of supportive relationships with co-workers, parents, and students. The Classroom Assistant II ensures, supports, and promotes each child’s safety, health, and development in cooperation with their families and other early childhood professionals in a manner consistent with NAEYC, NJDHS and child care licensing regulations

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

AA degree, preferably in the field of Early Childhood Education of Child Development from an accredited public or private institution of higher education. Child Development Associate (CDA) credential for Preschool Caregivers required or an equivalent credential that addresses comparable competencies; or must obtain the credential within one year of employment as a Classroom Assistant II.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Must have (or be willing to obtain) training and experience necessary to develop consistent, stable, and supportive relationships with very young children. Ability to work as part of a multi-program/disciplinary team in providing a variety of services to children and families. Experience working with children from low income families. Valid First Aid/CPR card, food handler’s card, negative TB test, and clear criminal background check required.

Job Description

 

The Cooperative Institute for Mesoscale Meteorological Studies (CIMMS) seeks to fill a Student Assistant position to contribute to CIMMS Meteorological Phenomena Identification Near the Ground (mPING) project (http://mping.ou.edu/).

The principal duties of this position are:

  • Develop technical expertise with the Python/Django RESTful system and the packages and tools used in the mPING project
  • Develop a plan for system improvements and changes to the mPING system with CIMMS personnel
  • Document the project by way of creating appropriate wiki pages
  • Potentially work on creating automated backup and system monitoring tools
  • Potentially make modifications and improvements to the iOS and Android mPING apps
  • Potentially develop new display web tools for research purposes
  •  

     

    Job Requirements

     

    Required Education: Must be currently enrolled in the current Fall 2018 Term as a student at the University of Oklahoma. Hiring contingent upon verification of current student status.

    • Must attach Fall 2018 oZONE class schedule.

    Skills:

    • Strong computer programming skills with particular emphasis on Python and PostgreSQL
    • Strong familiarity with the UNIX/Linux operating environment and web services such as Nginx, Django and RESTful web applications

    Department Preferences:

    • Optional experience with mobile app development on Android and/or iOS is a plus
    • Experience debugging and/or trouble shooting software and hardware issues
    • Experience working with complex software applications and web-based communications
