PHD STUDENT AND/OR POST-DOCTORAL FELLOW
The University of Helsinki is a leading Nordic university with a strong life science research. Within the university, the Institute of Biotechnology (BI) is a part of Helsinki Institute of Life Science (HiLIFE), dedicated to successful development of biotechnology and integrative biology and the application of this knowledge for the benefit of society.
The Cell and Tissue Dynamics Group, led by Academy of Finland research fellow Minna Poukkula, is a young, dynamic research group located in multidisciplinary research environment at Institute of Biotechnology. We are supported by excellent core facilities and well-established research community.
We are now looking for a
PhD student and/or Post-doctoral fellow
We are now looking for enthusiastic new members to our growing team to study how changes in cellular shape and motility are regulated in vivo. In particular, the project aims at understanding how actin filament disassembly is spatiotemporally regulated in epithelial cells undergoing morphogenetic movements. The project provides an opportunity to use wide array of methods, in particular state-of-the-art imaging techniques and image analysis, in combination with the powerful genetic toolkit of Drosophila. Successful candidates are highly motivated towards scientific research. The applicants are required to hold a M.Sc. (for PhD student position) or PhD degree (for Post-doctoral fellow) in cell biology, genetics, developmental biology, biochemistry, or related field. Previous experience in cell biology, confocal microscopy or imaging analysis is an advantage. Experience on Drosophila work is not necessary. As we work in international research environment, good oral and written communication skills in English are important; knowledge of the Finnish language is not necessary.
The full-time position of one year can start in December 2018 or upon mutual agreement. A continuation after that is possible.
