Position Information

Job TitleRobinson Community Learning Center AmeriCorps Member (half-time position, serving with the Talk With Your Baby Program
Job Description

The mission of the Robinson Community Learning Center (RCLC) is to welcome community and Notre Dame partners that strengthen the Northeast Neighborhood of South Bend through relationship building and educational opportunities. By promoting innovation and excellence, the Center builds individual capacity and enhances existing systems throughout South Bend. The work of the RCLC addresses five goals to accomplish this mission: Hospitality, Education, Partnership, Civic Engagement, and Sustainability.

“Talk With Your Baby” (TWYB) is a multi-agency parent education initiative, coordinated at the RCLC, which teaches that the first three years of life are the most important for the development of a baby’s brain, so it is crucial that parents talk with babies as much as possible.

Service Position Summary: The AmeriCorps member will be responsible for helping to coordinate the ongoing Talk With Your Baby program as well as coordinating short term projects and events.

Specific Responsibilities include:
• Assist with coordination of TWYB classes offered through local agencies as well as those open to the public. This may include scheduling classes, ordering and distributing materials, arranging facilitator trainings, maintaining a database of agencies and participants and keeping track of inventory.
• Assist with development of TWYB outreach. This may include recruiting new agencies and participants, creating/distributing publicity materials and contributing to the TWYB facebook page and web site.
• Attend TWYB facilitator training, and assist with implementation of TWYB classes. This may include planning and teaching curriculum, working directly with parents and young children and keeping necessary records.
• Assist with TWYB monitoring and evaluation. This may include conducting TWYB class site observations, and collecting/entering survey information from participants into database.
• Oversee and coordinate special projects as requested.
• Attend AmeriCorps meetings at the RCLC.

AmeriCorps is a national service organization aimed at helping communities meet needs in areas including education by building the capacity of community organizations. AmeriCorps provides funding for the RCLC to engage a total of 31 full- and part-time AmeriCorps members during 2018-2019.

These are considered service positions, rather than traditional “jobs”. Half-time AmeriCorps members are expected to complete 900 hours of service by July 31, 2019. Members receive a Living Allowance in equal installments throughout the term of service. On completion of the term of service, members will receive an education award.
