STLR Project – Graduate Student – Assessing Student Transformation

In order to apply for this TL Graduate Student Project employment, you first must have a Faculty or Staff Supervisor and an approved STLR project.
Student Transformative Learning (TL) Projects are funded through UCO’s Student Transformative Learning Record (STLR) to provide students with paid, learning experiences.
STLR’s goal is to expand students’ perspectives of their relationships with self, others, community, and environment to develop employability, communication, and citizenship skills for success after graduation. STLR documents 5 of UCO’s Central 6 tenets for students to showcase to employers, graduate schools, scholarship committees, and others. These tenets are: Global & Cultural Competencies; Health & Wellness; Leadership; Research, Creative & Scholarly Activities; and Service Learning & Civic Engagement. These projects give students a place to apply academic knowledge outside the classroom to strengthen their knowledge base, sharpen their skills, and enable the development of real workplace competencies.
STLR projects are of variable duration, but all require students to:
- Meet regularly with the project supervisor and incorporate their feedback.
- Meet deadlines, take initiative, and possibly interact with project colleagues.
- Represent UCO in a positive and professional manner.
- Develop reflective artifact(s) to submit to the project supervisor by the end of the project in a D2L Dropbox for supervisor review.
- Push the artifact(s) to the student’s STLR ePortfolio in D2L.
- Articulate a knowledge of UCO’s Central Six, STLR, and the concept of Transformative Learning (TL).
There will be many different types of projects, each with different job functions. All are associated with one or more of the UCO Central Six Tenets of Transformative Learning:
Graduate student. Enrollment in at least 5 credit hours (6 for international students) or for summer employment maintain enrollment in at least 3 hours or be enrolled in Fall classes (FICA tax deduction required). If the number of credit hours needed to graduate is less than the minimum hours required to work, the student must obtain a degree check from his/her advisor stating the number of hours needed to graduate; employment will be considered on this basis. Identify a UCO faculty/staff supervisor who has been, or will be, STLR-trained prior to the start of the project.

Various basic skill and abilities will be needed to complete the project(s).
Repetitive movement of hands and fingers – typing and/or writing. Frequent standing, and/or sitting. Occasional walking, stooping, kneeling or crouching. Reach with hands and arms.
Visually identify, observe and assess. Ability to communicate with supervisor/students/colleagues. Regular physical attendance required.

The Classroom Assistant will support the classrooms serving children from ages 0-3 years and creating and maintaining a safe and stimulating environment for young children. Minimum Education and Experience |
AA degree, preferably in the field of Early Childhood Education of Child Development from an accredited public or private institution of higher education. Child Development Associate (CDA) credential for Preschool Caregivers required or an equivalent credential that addresses comparable competencies; or must obtain the credential within one year of employment as a Classroom Assistant II. |

Must have (or be willing to obtain) training and experience necessary to develop consistent, stable, and supportive relationships with very young children. Ability to work as part of a multi-program/disciplinary team in providing a variety of services to children and families. Experience working with children from low income families. Valid First Aid/CPR card, food handler’s card, negative TB test, and clear criminal background check required. |

Skills:
- Strong computer programming skills with particular emphasis on Python and PostgreSQL
- Strong familiarity with the UNIX/Linux operating environment and web services such as Nginx, Django and RESTful web applications
Department Preferences:
