This is a 10 month position with June and July off.
Responsible for academic advising, recruitment, and university and community outreach.
Academic Advising
- Counsels and advises current and prospective students
- Maintains student records
- Assists in the implementation of policies and procedures
- Monitors academic progress towards degree completion
- Collects data, and prepares various statistical reports.
- Liaise with, and coordinate, faculty in advising, process academic inquiries verbally and in writing
- Receives, screens and responds to students and parents
- Works with scheduling committee ensure that required courses are offered in a manner that facilitates students’ timely graduation.
Recruitment and University and Community Outreach
- Provides input for the development and revision of informational materials
- Organizes special recruitment events and projects and represents DGES at recruiting activities
- Develops data and contacts for related to recruitment opportunities on or off campus.
- Assists in the development of relationships with internship providers
- Helps to publicize departmental activities to students
- Works towards increasing the visibility of DGES’ environmental efforts across campus and within the wider non-university community.
- Promotes DGES at university environmental events.
- Coordinates student internship placements and keep track of student interns
Qualifications

Required Education: Bachelor Degree OR an equivalent combination of education/job related experience AND:
- 0-24 months experience in Academic Advising
Skills:
- Ability to speak, read and write clear, concise English
- Ability to accurately read and understand written materials and instructions
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Highly organized and able to handle multiple projects and deadlines
- Able to communicate well and build rapport quickly with students, faculty and staff
- Able to produce reports and complete work within deadlines
- Strong initiative to solve problems
- General office skills such as multi-line phone, copying, filing, faxing, and mail

- Ability to bend, lift, stoop, and carry, engage in repetitive motions and communicate effectively.

Performs various administrative duties including providing support to our Test Proctoring Center and volunteer programs (note taking/mentoring); greeting visitors and directing them to the appropriate area; checking in students and others who have scheduled appointments; answering incoming phone calls and routing them to the correct staff member; taking messages as needed; assisting front office staff members with duties such as filing, copying, and faxing documents. Shift Specifics: 9 hours per week; flexible with class schedule. Student employees cannot work more than 1300 hours in a 12-consecutive month period. Georgia Southern University is a tobacco and smoke-free campus. All faculty, staff, and students must adhere to the established University System of Georgia policy. |
