    As a Career Ambassador team, we believe in providing diverse opportunities for students and alumni by refining leadership and professional development skills. Our mission, in conjunction with the Career and Professional Development Center, is to educate students and alumni in the discovery and realization of meaningful careers, as well as nurturing and establishing connections between students, alumni, academic partners, and employers. Our primary goal is to empower students to achieve their dreams. About the Career & Professional Development Center.

    Students who participate as a Career Ambassador will:
    • Acquire strong professional development skills including resume writing, job/internship searching, graduate school preparedness, interviewing, peer advising, and career exploration
    • Spearhead initiatives like career preparedness, peer mentoring, event management and leadership opportunities that support academic, career and personal growth
    • Network with employers, alumni, and academic partners to help build and maintain connections for future professional opportunities

    Position Summary:
    The Career Ambassador is a liaison between the Career & Professional Development Center and students, alumni, academic partners and employers. This position works to achieve five core objectives:
    1. Uphold the mission and vision of CPDC
    2. Advocate for and increase awareness of the CPDC
    3. Engage in outreach to university students, prospective students, alumni, academic partners, and employers
    4. Assist with on-campus career related events
    5. Peer-advise students on career and professional development topics including resume reviews, cover letter reviews, job search strategies, interviewing technique, and career exploration.

    Responsibilities

    • Attend mandatory weekly meetings with the Career Ambassador Team
    • Advise students in 1:1 appointments, primarily on resumes & cover letter reviews, and also on career exploration and professional decision making (i.e. providing feedback on job and internship searching, interview tips, etc.) during Quick Help appointments
    • Serve as first point of contact for students by managing front desk including checking students in for appointments, taking phone calls and answering questions/concerns about our office
    • Complete regular office-wide projects in areas of marketing, employer outreach, alumni services, programming, operational excellence and academic partners
    • Collaborate and build relationships with employers and the employer engagement team by assisting with on campus interviews and recruitment efforts
    • Oversee campus outreach to students by presenting, implementing marketing strategies, managing social media and disseminating educational resources
    • Present professional development workshops to classes, campus partners, and student groups
    • Plan and implement a variety of CPDC presentations for campus departments and student groups
    • Plan and execute Career Ambassadors signature events, and develop new professional development & career events to improve the Ambassador program
    • Actively engage in on-campus career related events whenever possible (i.e. Career Fairs, Graduate Fair, employer panels, tabling, resume review days etc.)
    • Collaborate with on-campus student groups and departments to build new relationships and advocate for CPDC

    Minimum Qualifications

    • University student (undergraduate and graduate) in any major with a minimum 3.0GPA
    • Be available the full week prior to the start of the school for training, Monday, August 13 – Friday, August 17, 2018 from 8am-5pm
    • Be available to attend weekly Ambassador staff meeting, TBD based on selected Ambassador’s class schedules

    • Able to attend portions of important events, including but not limited to Student Job Fair (Wed, Aug 22, 2018), STEM Career Fair (Tues, Sept 25, 2018), All Campus Career Fair (Tues, Oct 2, 2018) and Graduate School Fair (Thurs, Sept 27, 2018).
    • Able to attend Career Ambassador Signature events
    • Desire to peer advise students on career exploration and professional development
    • Ability to follow-through and see tasks to completion by required deadlines
    • Ability to demonstrate initiative and seek out projects and assignments
    • Ability to problem solve quickly and ability to find solutions to problems if unsure
    • Ability to present career development topics to stakeholders

    Preferences

    • Preference will be given to applicants who have received a Federal Work Study Award.
    • Demonstrated campus involvement through participation in variety of student groups and/or departments
    • Strong communication skills with ability to clearly present information both verbally and orally (individually or in groups)
    • Experience managing and completing a multi-step project or event in work or school
    • Ability to work independently while also collaborating and sharing innovative ideas
    • Demonstrate time management skills
    • Ability to demonstrate initiative
