The Associate Vice Chancellor is a Senior Academic and Administrative Officer of The University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

The primary mission of the position is to develop, direct, and administer services for students that have a direct impact on the quality of students’ educational experiences and campus life. Reporting directly to the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, the Associate Vice Chancellor assists in implementing the Vice Chancellor’s vision and goals for the Division of Student Affairs, working in close collaboration with other senior campus officials.

The Associate Vice Chancellor represents the Vice Chancellor in all situations with tact and diplomacy, requiring a dedication to consultation and consensus building.

Primary Purpose of Position

The units overseen by the Associate Vice Chancellor include:

The Popp-Martin Student Union serves as the community center for student life and organizations. It averages an impressive 8,020 visitors per weekday during academic sessions.

The Cone University Center is home to a variety of student support services, fraternity & sorority life, academic classrooms and labs, and meeting spaces utilized by student organizations and faculty/staff teams.

The Student Activity Center & Venue Management unit hosts audiences to diverse events including athletics, entertainment, commencement and other ceremonies.

The Student Activities unit is responsible for campus initiatives that engage students as both participants and leaders through a wide variety of involvement and learning opportunities.

The Conferences, Reservations, and Special Events (CRES) unit is responsible for scheduling and/or coordinating usage of non-academic space. CRES provides “one stop shop” scheduling, event planning, and conference coordination to university affiliated and community clients for all on campus events.

Summary of Position Responsibilities

Provide leadership, management and oversight for a comprehensive umbrella organization encompassing the following functional units:
*The Popp-Martin Student Union
*The Cone University Center
*The Student Activity Center and Venue Management
*Conference, Reservations and Event Services
*Student Activity Fees Commission
*The Office of Student Activities
(which includes the Center for Leadership Development, Student Involvement, Fraternity and Sorority Life, Student Media and Venture Outdoor Experiential Learning)

Under the purview of the Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs are 88 full- time and 200+ student employees. Direct reports are an Assistant Vice Chancellor, the Director of the Student Activities Center & Venue Management, the Director of Conference, Reservations, and Event Services, a Business Officer, and an Executive Assistant.

The Associate Vice Chancellor is responsible for overall management, strategic planning, personnel administration and budget development and implementation of annual operating budgets in excess of $15 million.

Minimum Education/Experience

The most competitive candidates will have a Master’s degree, Doctorate preferred, in higher education, counseling and/or student personnel (or a related field); a minimum of ten years of progressive student union and/or public arena/ sports venue management experience and the demonstrated ability to lead, develop and apply best practices to large comprehensive student services programs.

2. Excellent interpersonal and human resource management skills
3. Knowledge of Student Affairs, issues in Higher Education, and Student Development
4. Ability to manage and provide leadership for a diverse set of facilities, programs, and services
5. Strong business acumen including basic accounting and budget development
6. Ability to negotiate contracts.
7. Knowledge and experience managing large student life facilities (Student Unions, Arenas and / or Football Complexes).
8. Knowledge of developmental concepts in the areas of advising, leadership development, and education programs
9. Ability to use computer for word processing, spreadsheets, and other applications.

The finalist will be subject to a criminal background check.

Posting Summary

The Classroom Assistant will support the classrooms serving children from ages 0-3 years and creating and maintaining a safe and stimulating environment for young children. This position is responsible for daily care of the children enrolled in his/her class. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: physical caregiving, following an age appropriate daily plan, and facilitation of supportive relationships with co-workers, parents, and students. The Classroom Assistant II ensures, supports, and promotes each child’s safety, health, and development in cooperation with their families and other early childhood professionals in a manner consistent with NAEYC, NJDHS and child care licensing regulations

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

AA degree, preferably in the field of Early Childhood Education of Child Development from an accredited public or private institution of higher education. Child Development Associate (CDA) credential for Preschool Caregivers required or an equivalent credential that addresses comparable competencies; or must obtain the credential within one year of employment as a Classroom Assistant II.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Must have (or be willing to obtain) training and experience necessary to develop consistent, stable, and supportive relationships with very young children. Ability to work as part of a multi-program/disciplinary team in providing a variety of services to children and families. Experience working with children from low income families. Valid First Aid/CPR card, food handler’s card, negative TB test, and clear criminal background check required.

Job Description

 

The Cooperative Institute for Mesoscale Meteorological Studies (CIMMS) seeks to fill a Student Assistant position to contribute to CIMMS Meteorological Phenomena Identification Near the Ground (mPING) project (http://mping.ou.edu/).

The principal duties of this position are:

  • Develop technical expertise with the Python/Django RESTful system and the packages and tools used in the mPING project
  • Develop a plan for system improvements and changes to the mPING system with CIMMS personnel
  • Document the project by way of creating appropriate wiki pages
  • Potentially work on creating automated backup and system monitoring tools
  • Potentially make modifications and improvements to the iOS and Android mPING apps
  • Potentially develop new display web tools for research purposes

    Job Requirements

     

    Required Education: Must be currently enrolled in the current Fall 2018 Term as a student at the University of Oklahoma. Hiring contingent upon verification of current student status.

    • Must attach Fall 2018 oZONE class schedule.

    Skills:

    • Strong computer programming skills with particular emphasis on Python and PostgreSQL
    • Strong familiarity with the UNIX/Linux operating environment and web services such as Nginx, Django and RESTful web applications

    Department Preferences:

    • Optional experience with mobile app development on Android and/or iOS is a plus
    • Experience debugging and/or trouble shooting software and hardware issues
    • Experience working with complex software applications and web-based communications
