Brief Position Overview

The mission of the Bracken Business Communications Clinic (BBCC) is to improve JJCBE students’ communication skills and professionalism. BBCC coaches accomplish this through one-on-one meetings, small group appointments, and larger workshops with students to provide support and feedback to improve students’ writing, speaking, interviewing, and oral presentation skills. BBCC coaches play an integral part in the Clinic’s success through their interactions with students, faculty, staff, and fellow coaches.

Position Details

General Statement

The Jake Jabs College of Business & Entrepreneurship at Montana State University offers a B.S. in Business with options in Accounting, Finance, Management, and Marketing and a Master of Professional Accountancy degree. The Bracken Business Communications Clinic (BBCC) is open to JJCBE students. The mission of the BBCC is to improve JJCBE students’ communication skills and professionalism. BBCC coaches accomplish this through one-on-one meetings, small group appointments, and larger workshops with students to provide support and feedback to improve students’ writing, speaking, interviewing, and oral presentation skills. BBCC coaches play an integral part in the Clinic’s success through their interactions with students, faculty, staff, and fellow coaches.

Duties and Responsibilities

Successful candidates will be able to look critically at documents (including written assignments, résumés, and cover letters), presentations, and other business messages and evaluate them based on their organization, argument structure, concision, clarity, and grammatical accuracy. Successful candidates will also support the BBCC’s mission to create educational tools by participating in the creation of instructional videos, handouts, blog posts, social media content, and marketing materials. Successful candidates will be asked to give classroom presentations that inform students of the BBCC’s services and teach students communication strategies. Successful candidates will report to the BBCC Director and will work frequently with JJCBE faculty to determine their expectations for various assignments.

Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, communication studies, or business, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience writing professional messages
  • Demonstrated experience delivering oral presentations in a professional setting
  • Demonstrated experience with MS Office computer applications and digital media communication platforms
  • Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  • Experience teaching or tutoring in a post-secondary setting
  • Experience editing
  • Experience in higher education writing or communication center
  • Basic experience with webpage development

    Posting Summary

    The Classroom Assistant will support the classrooms serving children from ages 0-3 years and creating and maintaining a safe and stimulating environment for young children. This position is responsible for daily care of the children enrolled in his/her class. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: physical caregiving, following an age appropriate daily plan, and facilitation of supportive relationships with co-workers, parents, and students. The Classroom Assistant II ensures, supports, and promotes each child’s safety, health, and development in cooperation with their families and other early childhood professionals in a manner consistent with NAEYC, NJDHS and child care licensing regulations

    Qualifications

    Minimum Education and Experience

    AA degree, preferably in the field of Early Childhood Education of Child Development from an accredited public or private institution of higher education. Child Development Associate (CDA) credential for Preschool Caregivers required or an equivalent credential that addresses comparable competencies; or must obtain the credential within one year of employment as a Classroom Assistant II.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    Must have (or be willing to obtain) training and experience necessary to develop consistent, stable, and supportive relationships with very young children. Ability to work as part of a multi-program/disciplinary team in providing a variety of services to children and families. Experience working with children from low income families. Valid First Aid/CPR card, food handler’s card, negative TB test, and clear criminal background check required.

    Job Description

     

    The Cooperative Institute for Mesoscale Meteorological Studies (CIMMS) seeks to fill a Student Assistant position to contribute to CIMMS Meteorological Phenomena Identification Near the Ground (mPING) project (http://mping.ou.edu/).

    The principal duties of this position are:

  • Develop technical expertise with the Python/Django RESTful system and the packages and tools used in the mPING project
  • Develop a plan for system improvements and changes to the mPING system with CIMMS personnel
  • Document the project by way of creating appropriate wiki pages
  • Potentially work on creating automated backup and system monitoring tools
  • Potentially make modifications and improvements to the iOS and Android mPING apps
  • Potentially develop new display web tools for research purposes
  •  

     

    Job Requirements

     

    Required Education: Must be currently enrolled in the current Fall 2018 Term as a student at the University of Oklahoma. Hiring contingent upon verification of current student status.

    • Must attach Fall 2018 oZONE class schedule.

    Skills:

    • Strong computer programming skills with particular emphasis on Python and PostgreSQL
    • Strong familiarity with the UNIX/Linux operating environment and web services such as Nginx, Django and RESTful web applications

    Department Preferences:

    • Optional experience with mobile app development on Android and/or iOS is a plus
    • Experience debugging and/or trouble shooting software and hardware issues
    • Experience working with complex software applications and web-based communications
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
