Intern – Student Manager of Student Innovation Incubator (SII)

Student Employment

USF CONNECT is the economic development arm of the University of South Florida.  It supports early stage technology and bio/life sciences entrepreneurs with facilities with access to  educational events and mentors in the Tampa Bay Technology Incubator and Student Innovation Incubator (located in the USF Research Park), as well as to potential funding and partnerships with faculty and students through the Florida High Tech Corridor Council’s Matching Grants program.  The Student Innovation Incubator (SII) opened in Fall 2013 to support student businesses from concept to commercialization.

Hourly Wage: $10-15/hour depending on qualifications

Duties: 

The successful job candidate have an opportunity to receive management experience and on-the-job training as the Student Manager of the Student Innovation Incubator (SII). Working directly with the USF CONNECT Program Manager and other leadership, the Student Manager will have the opportunity to work closely with the USF CONNECT team, community and business leaders, and USF’s Innovation Enterprise.

The Student Manager will recruit new student companies, develop concept and print design for marketing materials (e.g. flyers, digital newsletters, promotional items, and e-mails), maintain e-mail distribution lists for prospective and existing SII companies, and coordinate/promote events across digital platforms. Duties include helping students develop business plans, tracking mentor/student client interactions, database management, incubator client survey collection and analysis, and light clerical work. The Student Manager will also act as the liaison between SII and the Center for Entrepreneurship, as well as assist with other USF CONNECT projects as needed.

The Student Manager position requires high-level professionalism, as he or she will be highly visible to Tampa community leaders, local business executives, and University leadership.

Average Number of Hours per Week: up to 20 hours per week

Schedule: Between the hours of 8am-5pm Monday – Friday

Minimum Qualifications:  

Flexible schedule and can work up to 20 hours/week between the hours of 8am-5pm M-F

Minimum of 3.0 GPA

Proficient use of MS Office suite and social media

Superior written and oral communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

Proficient use of Adobe including InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Acrobat Professional

Proficient use of Microsoft Excel

The Classroom Assistant will support the classrooms serving children from ages 0-3 years and creating and maintaining a safe and stimulating environment for young children. Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

AA degree, preferably in the field of Early Childhood Education of Child Development from an accredited public or private institution of higher education. Child Development Associate (CDA) credential for Preschool Caregivers required or an equivalent credential that addresses comparable competencies; or must obtain the credential within one year of employment as a Classroom Assistant II.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Must have (or be willing to obtain) training and experience necessary to develop consistent, stable, and supportive relationships with very young children. Ability to work as part of a multi-program/disciplinary team in providing a variety of services to children and families. Experience working with children from low income families. Valid First Aid/CPR card, food handler’s card, negative TB test, and clear criminal background check required.

Job Description

 

The Cooperative Institute for Mesoscale Meteorological Studies (CIMMS) seeks to fill a Student Assistant position to contribute to CIMMS Meteorological Phenomena Identification Near the Ground (mPING) project (http://mping.ou.edu/).

The principal duties of this position are:

  • Develop technical expertise with the Python/Django RESTful system and the packages and tools used in the mPING project
  • Develop a plan for system improvements and changes to the mPING system with CIMMS personnel
  • Document the project by way of creating appropriate wiki pages
  • Potentially work on creating automated backup and system monitoring tools
  • Potentially make modifications and improvements to the iOS and Android mPING apps
  • Potentially develop new display web tools for research purposes
  •  

     

    Job Requirements

     

    Required Education: Must be currently enrolled in the current Fall 2018 Term as a student at the University of Oklahoma. Hiring contingent upon verification of current student status.

    • Must attach Fall 2018 oZONE class schedule.

    Skills:

    • Strong computer programming skills with particular emphasis on Python and PostgreSQL
    • Strong familiarity with the UNIX/Linux operating environment and web services such as Nginx, Django and RESTful web applications

    Department Preferences:

    • Optional experience with mobile app development on Android and/or iOS is a plus
    • Experience debugging and/or trouble shooting software and hardware issues
