Position Summary Information

General Information

The Off-Campus Life Student Liaison supports the mission of Off-Campus Life by providing students and parents with education and information regarding off-campus housing options, and skills and knowledge necessary to effectively transition to off-campus living. This position involves creating and facilitating educational programs, providing coverage and assistance during weekly office hours by answering phones and providing service to walk-in customers and helping students going through the House Hunters process. The position also includes a Community Assistant role component where there will be duties of working with a partner to write a monthly newsletter article and create weekly Facebook posts that educate off campus students on areas that can help with the transition to community living. This position will be a 12-15 hour per week employment opportunity.

Duties and Responsibilities

-Complete and submit timecards each pay period.
-Provide consistent and reliable front-desk coverage at the office.
-Provide friendly and professional customer service to those seeking Off-Campus Life services.
-Handle confidential and sensitive information professionally.
-Create an inclusive and welcoming environment that affirms the diverse backgrounds of all students.
-Keep an accurate record of communication with those coming to the office for services.
-Answer and return phone calls, as well as take messages appropriately.
-Respond to emails, phone calls, or text messages from supervisors regarding needs and office concerns in a timely fashion.
-Create, plan, and facilitate Off-Campus Life events.
-Support event/ program team partners at Off-Campus Life events when serving in the team roles of Project Manager, Administrative Manager, and Marketing Specialist.
-Remain knowledgeable about information and events within and around the Off-Campus Life office.
-Maintain a respectful environment towards supervisors and fellow staff members.
-Attend weekly supervision meetings and any required staff trainings.
-Support the mission of Off-Campus Life by providing students and parents with education and information regarding off-campus housing options, and skills and knowledge necessary to effectively transition to off-campus living.
-Serve in a Community Assistant role to help students living off-campus become responsible and active community members in Harrisonburg. This will involve working with a partner to create monthly newsletter articles and weekly Facebook posts on topic areas that will help with the transition to living in the community.

Successful candidate must be able to:

-Handle completing multiple tasks simultaneously.

-Demonstrate proficiency with various computer related tasks (emails, entering information in a spreadsheet, etc.)
-Be enthusiastic and passionate about educating students on off-campus living.

Conditions of Employment

Students must be degree-seeking students, enrolled on at least a half-time basis (6 credits for undergraduate and 5 credits for graduate).

Posting Summary

The Classroom Assistant will support the classrooms serving children from ages 0-3 years and creating and maintaining a safe and stimulating environment for young children. This position is responsible for daily care of the children enrolled in his/her class. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: physical caregiving, following an age appropriate daily plan, and facilitation of supportive relationships with co-workers, parents, and students. The Classroom Assistant II ensures, supports, and promotes each child’s safety, health, and development in cooperation with their families and other early childhood professionals in a manner consistent with NAEYC, NJDHS and child care licensing regulations

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

AA degree, preferably in the field of Early Childhood Education of Child Development from an accredited public or private institution of higher education. Child Development Associate (CDA) credential for Preschool Caregivers required or an equivalent credential that addresses comparable competencies; or must obtain the credential within one year of employment as a Classroom Assistant II.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Must have (or be willing to obtain) training and experience necessary to develop consistent, stable, and supportive relationships with very young children. Ability to work as part of a multi-program/disciplinary team in providing a variety of services to children and families. Experience working with children from low income families. Valid First Aid/CPR card, food handler’s card, negative TB test, and clear criminal background check required.

Job Description

 

The Cooperative Institute for Mesoscale Meteorological Studies (CIMMS) seeks to fill a Student Assistant position to contribute to CIMMS Meteorological Phenomena Identification Near the Ground (mPING) project (http://mping.ou.edu/).

The principal duties of this position are:

  • Develop technical expertise with the Python/Django RESTful system and the packages and tools used in the mPING project
  • Develop a plan for system improvements and changes to the mPING system with CIMMS personnel
  • Document the project by way of creating appropriate wiki pages
  • Potentially work on creating automated backup and system monitoring tools
  • Potentially make modifications and improvements to the iOS and Android mPING apps
  • Potentially develop new display web tools for research purposes
  •  

     

    Job Requirements

     

    Required Education: Must be currently enrolled in the current Fall 2018 Term as a student at the University of Oklahoma. Hiring contingent upon verification of current student status.

    • Must attach Fall 2018 oZONE class schedule.

    Skills:

    • Strong computer programming skills with particular emphasis on Python and PostgreSQL
    • Strong familiarity with the UNIX/Linux operating environment and web services such as Nginx, Django and RESTful web applications

    Department Preferences:

    • Optional experience with mobile app development on Android and/or iOS is a plus
    • Experience debugging and/or trouble shooting software and hardware issues
    • Experience working with complex software applications and web-based communications
