PT Hourly POOL – Clerical (Student Life & Leadership)

Definition

Assignments are short-term, temporary, and will not exceed 28 hours per week or 160 days per Fiscal Year. This is a continuous recruitment to create a POOL of applicants to be used as needed for temporary support. You will be contacted  by the hiring manager should the department/division be interested in scheduling an interview. Please do not call the Office of Human Resources regarding the status of your application.

Qualifications and Physical Demands

Minimum Qualifications :
Knowledge of:

  • Modern office practices, procedures, methods, electronic technology and equipment.
  • Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary.
  • Principles, practices and procedures of business letter writing, data collection, record keeping and report preparation.
  • Principles and techniques used in public relations.
  • Current word processing, spreadsheet and database programs, methods and techniques.
  • Basic math with financial and statistical record keeping.
  • Receptionist and telephone techniques and etiquette.
  • Basic research methods and techniques, as well as, office management techniques.
  • Some higher level positions desire individuals with knowledge of/ability to perform:

  • Knowledge of post-secondary education codes and legislative requirements; instructional process and college environment
  • Office management techniques, methods and procedures
  • Complex inter-related record keeping, complex fiscal, statistical and administrative data collection and report preparation
  • Provide training, work direction and guidance to lower-level office staff and student workers.  
  • Ability to:

  • Learn and work within the policies, functions, and requirements of area of assignments.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, in the English language, both orally and in writing.
  • Compile information and write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals using correct English usage, grammar, spelling punctuation and vocabulary.
  • Operate an electronic keyboard accurately at a speed necessary for successful job performance.
  • Record and transcribe information accurately at an acceptable rate of speed.
  • Independently compose routine correspondence and memoranda.
  • Type, format, proofread, duplicate and distribute documents and other written materials.
  • Provide work direction to others. Establish, review and revise office work priorities.
  • Maintain accurate statistical and financial records.
  • Plan and organize work.
  • Perform work with speed and accuracy.
  • Respond to requests and inquiries from students, staff or the public.
  • Effectively present information in person or on the telephone to students, staff or the public.
  • Use sound judgment in recognizing scope of authority.
  • Exercise good judgment and discretion in analyzing and resolving confidential, difficult and sensitive situations.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Relate effectively with people of varied academic, cultural and socio-economic background using tact diplomacy and courtesy.  
  • Conditions of Employment

    Employment is on a part-time, temporary basis and contingent upon verification of employment history, background verification as governed under Education Code requirements, eligibility to work in the United States, and approval by the CCCD Board of Trustees. Short term/temporary assignments do not offer fringe benefits or pay for holidays or time not worked and are limited to 28 hours per week.
     
    This is a CONTINUOUS recruitment for an applicant POOL to fill part-time, temporary, hourly assignments on an as-needed basis. We accept applications all year long. Departments or Divisions will refer to the POOL of applications on file, as needed, to fill temporary assignments. (Applications will remain in the pool for one year.)
     

    Additional Information

    The normal hours of work are typically 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday; some flexibility may be required to meet the needs of the department. The effective date of employment will be arranged with the supervisor.

    • Regular attendance is considered an essential job function; the inability to meet attendance requirements may preclude the employee from retaining employment.

    Posting Summary

    The Classroom Assistant will support the classrooms serving children from ages 0-3 years and creating and maintaining a safe and stimulating environment for young children. This position is responsible for daily care of the children enrolled in his/her class. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: physical caregiving, following an age appropriate daily plan, and facilitation of supportive relationships with co-workers, parents, and students. The Classroom Assistant II ensures, supports, and promotes each child’s safety, health, and development in cooperation with their families and other early childhood professionals in a manner consistent with NAEYC, NJDHS and child care licensing regulations

    Qualifications

    Minimum Education and Experience

    AA degree, preferably in the field of Early Childhood Education of Child Development from an accredited public or private institution of higher education. Child Development Associate (CDA) credential for Preschool Caregivers required or an equivalent credential that addresses comparable competencies; or must obtain the credential within one year of employment as a Classroom Assistant II.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    Must have (or be willing to obtain) training and experience necessary to develop consistent, stable, and supportive relationships with very young children. Ability to work as part of a multi-program/disciplinary team in providing a variety of services to children and families. Experience working with children from low income families. Valid First Aid/CPR card, food handler’s card, negative TB test, and clear criminal background check required.

    Job Description

     

    The Cooperative Institute for Mesoscale Meteorological Studies (CIMMS) seeks to fill a Student Assistant position to contribute to CIMMS Meteorological Phenomena Identification Near the Ground (mPING) project (http://mping.ou.edu/).

    The principal duties of this position are:

  • Develop technical expertise with the Python/Django RESTful system and the packages and tools used in the mPING project
  • Develop a plan for system improvements and changes to the mPING system with CIMMS personnel
  • Document the project by way of creating appropriate wiki pages
  • Potentially work on creating automated backup and system monitoring tools
  • Potentially make modifications and improvements to the iOS and Android mPING apps
  • Potentially develop new display web tools for research purposes
  •  

     

    Job Requirements

     

    Required Education: Must be currently enrolled in the current Fall 2018 Term as a student at the University of Oklahoma. Hiring contingent upon verification of current student status.

    • Must attach Fall 2018 oZONE class schedule.

    Skills:

    • Strong computer programming skills with particular emphasis on Python and PostgreSQL
    • Strong familiarity with the UNIX/Linux operating environment and web services such as Nginx, Django and RESTful web applications

    Department Preferences:

    • Optional experience with mobile app development on Android and/or iOS is a plus
    • Experience debugging and/or trouble shooting software and hardware issues
    • Experience working with complex software applications and web-based communications
