Overview

The Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O) employs a workforce of approximately 2,700 staff, represented by 15 collective negotiations agreements, and is responsible for institutional strategic initiatives and operations, which encompasses an expansive range of comprehensive service and business operations across the State of New Jersey. These include planning and construction, facilities, public safety and emergency operations, environmental health and safety, transportation, housing, and auxiliary/retail operations.

Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Shift Operations Specialist for The Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O). This position reports to the Supervisor of Utility Operations and is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of all stationary boiler, chiller and HVAC equipment university-wide as required by the NJ Department of Labor Boiler & Pressure Vessel Compliance. This coverage is provided 24 hours, 365 days per year.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:
• Provides first point of contact with the university community in case of trouble with mechanical systems or other problems in university buildings.
• Supervises University staff (both Shift and Zone mechanics) and oversees outside vendors as needed.
• Operates all stationary equipment, i.e. hot water and steam boilers, chillers and domestic hot water heating equipment over 100 horsepower serving all university buildings, utilities power plants and related auxiliaries. Checks equipment for proper operating conditions.
• Provides adjustments to correct abnormal operation conditions. Checks smaller house heating boiler equipment as required.
• Maintains contact with RUPD Dispatcher in order to respond to “off hour” occurrences, contact responsible users, either within facilities or academic/staff divisions of abnormalities and follow up to ensure problems are corrected.
• Provides supervision for Central Plant personnel during “off hours” as well as Operating engineers in the field.
• Ensures safe workplace practices in all areas.
• Maintains a detailed shift log documenting any abnormal operating conditions and incidents with stationary equipment, related auxiliaries or other problems campus-wide.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

• Requires a bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience, a valid NJ Class 1-C (Blue Seal) Operating Engineers License, and a minimum of two years’ experience in facility operations at either a commercial or institutional facility.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Experience should include supervision and the operation and minor repair of HVAC stationary boiler and chiller equipment.
• A valid driver’s license, two years of driving experience, and successful completion of the Rutgers Defensive Driving course is necessary.
• Also requires good communication skills and computer literacy in industry standard software.
• Ability to work in all weather conditions and temperature extremes is necessary.
• Must have knowledge of mechanical codes pertaining to same.
• Good oral and written communication skills, the ability to work independently and make decisions on various facility related problems.

Preferred Qualifications

• Possession of higher level of boiler license (Red/Gold Seal) and licensed in refrigeration.
• Experience in operating a Cogeneration Plant.
• Working knowledge of both pneumatic and DDC HVAC Control systems.

Posting Summary

The Classroom Assistant will support the classrooms serving children from ages 0-3 years and creating and maintaining a safe and stimulating environment for young children. This position is responsible for daily care of the children enrolled in his/her class. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: physical caregiving, following an age appropriate daily plan, and facilitation of supportive relationships with co-workers, parents, and students. The Classroom Assistant II ensures, supports, and promotes each child’s safety, health, and development in cooperation with their families and other early childhood professionals in a manner consistent with NAEYC, NJDHS and child care licensing regulations

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

AA degree, preferably in the field of Early Childhood Education of Child Development from an accredited public or private institution of higher education. Child Development Associate (CDA) credential for Preschool Caregivers required or an equivalent credential that addresses comparable competencies; or must obtain the credential within one year of employment as a Classroom Assistant II.

Must have (or be willing to obtain) training and experience necessary to develop consistent, stable, and supportive relationships with very young children. Ability to work as part of a multi-program/disciplinary team in providing a variety of services to children and families. Experience working with children from low income families. Valid First Aid/CPR card, food handler’s card, negative TB test, and clear criminal background check required.

Job Description

 

The Cooperative Institute for Mesoscale Meteorological Studies (CIMMS) seeks to fill a Student Assistant position to contribute to CIMMS Meteorological Phenomena Identification Near the Ground (mPING) project (http://mping.ou.edu/).

The principal duties of this position are:

  • Develop technical expertise with the Python/Django RESTful system and the packages and tools used in the mPING project
  • Develop a plan for system improvements and changes to the mPING system with CIMMS personnel
  • Document the project by way of creating appropriate wiki pages
  • Potentially work on creating automated backup and system monitoring tools
  • Potentially make modifications and improvements to the iOS and Android mPING apps
  • Potentially develop new display web tools for research purposes
  •  

     

    Job Requirements

     

    Required Education: Must be currently enrolled in the current Fall 2018 Term as a student at the University of Oklahoma. Hiring contingent upon verification of current student status.

    • Must attach Fall 2018 oZONE class schedule.

    Skills:

    • Strong computer programming skills with particular emphasis on Python and PostgreSQL
    • Strong familiarity with the UNIX/Linux operating environment and web services such as Nginx, Django and RESTful web applications

    Department Preferences:

    • Optional experience with mobile app development on Android and/or iOS is a plus
    • Experience debugging and/or trouble shooting software and hardware issues
    • Experience working with complex software applications and web-based communications
