Student Assistant-Jaguar Orientation Counselor (New Student Orientation Leader)
The Jaguar Orientation Counselor will perform a variety of duties and support assignments in the Office of New Student Orientation with well-defined instructions and guidelines provided by the full-time Admissions/Orientation staff and under the direct supervision of the Director of Undergraduate Admissions. Jaguar Orientation Counselors will serve as a leader and a resource for first time in college students throughout the entirety of the Summer 2018 orientation season. This position requires the incumbent to maintain a consistent and effective level of professionalism with first time in college students during and after each orientation session. Orientation counselors will work all freshman and transfer orientation sessions throughout the Summer 2018 orientation season including any and all necessary preparation days. Specific hours are set based on the orientation schedule as determined by the Director.
EXAMPLES OF WORK
• Writing content regarding personal college experiences and providing advice to incoming freshmen.
• Leading peer discussions during each Freshman orientation session.
• Energetically leading activities for students during each orientation session.
• Giving informative and entertaining campus tours during each orientation session.
• Answering questions and serving as a resource for new freshman students throughout their first semester.
• Making phone calls to students registered for an orientation session to confirm attendance.
• Preparing materials (name tags, t-shirts, binders, snacks, etc.) for each orientation session.
• Set-up rooms and venues for orientation sessions.
• Assisting with the orientation check-in process.
• Assisting as a chaperone to all post-orientation social outings.
• Assisting orientation staff and academic advisors with academic advising sessions during each orientation.
• Answering student questions in-person and through email while providing excellent customer service.
• Perform other assignments as needed.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities | Must have (or be willing to obtain) training and experience necessary to develop consistent, stable, and supportive relationships with very young children. Ability to work as part of a multi-program/disciplinary team in providing a variety of services to children and families. Experience working with children from low income families. Valid First Aid/CPR card, food handler’s card, negative TB test, and clear criminal background check required. |

Skills:
- Strong computer programming skills with particular emphasis on Python and PostgreSQL
- Strong familiarity with the UNIX/Linux operating environment and web services such as Nginx, Django and RESTful web applications
Department Preferences:
