Summary of Duties and Responsibilities | The Science Bound program at Iowa State University (ISU) is seeking a Student Program Assistant. Science Bound is Iowa State’s premier program for increasing the number of youth from racial and ethnic groups who are underrepresented in science and technology fields who pursue careers in theseareas. The program currently serves more than 430 students and their families in three Iowa school districts, as well as more than 150 students on the Iowa State campus. The person in this position will help with the delivery of a comprehensive secondary and university program for students from ethnically and racially diverse backgrounds. This individual will be responsible for coordinating with ISU Science Bound staff and teachers to deliver culturally-responsive and relevant after school programs, summer programs, leadership programs and retreats, with an emphasis on issues as they relate to our bilingual program offerings. The Student Program Assistant will help advise students at ISU in ways that support student transition and retention in STEM. Additionally, the incumbent will work with Science Bound staff to host the summer program AgDiscovery. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to: simple budget creation, program planning, three-weeks of non-traditional hours over the summer, and close collaboration with the USDA and the ezFed grant system. The successful candidate will possess a strong commitment to the philosophy and practice of asset-based and culturally relevant pedagogy; strong bilingual oral and written communication skills (Spanish and English); excellent interpersonal skills for working collaboratively with diverse students, families, faculty and staff; and demonstrated administrative and time management skills. |

Demonstrated knowledge of Latinx culture, family structure, immigration issues and higher education. Experience that demonstrates connecting families to community resources, office systems management, and student worker training and management. |
