Team Success Summer High School Student – Cooperative Extension Program
Job Summary
The Teaching, Enlightening, Achieving and Mentoring Program – TEAM Success Student will work with the FVSU Cooperative Extension Program county and campus staff to assist with day-to-day support in the different areas in our Program. The TEAM Success Student will assist county and campus staff with identify and develop educational programs for a diverse clientele which includes the rural disadvantaged, homemakers, small/family and part-time farmers, youth, and other members of the general public in Georgia.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist county/campus based staff with programs and events.
- Clerical duties: answering phones, making copies, keeping inventory of supplies
- Evaluating crops, working with livestock animals
- Conducting cooking demonstrations and nutrition education
- Assisting with youth-related programs (summer day camps)
- Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Minimum:
- Must live in one of the 14 Georgia counties where a Fort Valley State University Cooperative Extension Agent or Program Assistant is based. Those counties are Bulloch, Crawford, Dougherty, Hancock, Houston, Irwin, Laurens, Lowndes, Macon, Marion, Peach, Talbot, Terrell and Twiggs.
- Must be interested in attending Fort Valley State University
- Must be interested in a career in agriculture, family and consumer sciences, 4-H or related field.
- Must be a rising junior or senior, or graduating from high school Spring 2018.
- Must have at least a 2.4 cumulative grade point average.
- Must be eligible to work in the United States.
- Must be at least 16 years old by April 7, 2018.
Preferred:
- Educational knowledge/skills that reflect Cooperative Extension program areas.
- Extracurricular activities related to the position.
- Ability to adapt to a changing environment and handle multiple priorities.
Working conditions
Regular work hours are usually from 8am 5pm, Monday through Friday. Occasionally, evenings after 5pm or weekends are requested because of special scheduled programs. All travel will be with supervisor. Work conditions are usually within the confines of an office or extension program location to include small farms, home visits, community centers, and 4-H camps.
Physical requirements
This position may include standing or sitting for extended periods of time, lifting objects, performing repetitive tasks, prepping food stations; walking for extending periods, handling/operation of ag related tools/equipment and livestock.

Minimum Education and Experience |
AA degree, preferably in the field of Early Childhood Education of Child Development from an accredited public or private institution of higher education. Child Development Associate (CDA) credential for Preschool Caregivers required or an equivalent credential that addresses comparable competencies; or must obtain the credential within one year of employment as a Classroom Assistant II. |

Must have (or be willing to obtain) training and experience necessary to develop consistent, stable, and supportive relationships with very young children. Ability to work as part of a multi-program/disciplinary team in providing a variety of services to children and families. Experience working with children from low income families. Valid First Aid/CPR card, food handler’s card, negative TB test, and clear criminal background check required. |

Skills:
- Strong computer programming skills with particular emphasis on Python and PostgreSQL
