Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program
The U.S. Department of State funds about 600 students for summer language institutes abroad at various skill levels.
CLS is a program of the U.S. Department of State and provides fully funded group-based intensive language instruction and structured cultural enrichment experiences for seven to ten weeks for US citizen graduate students. Scholars will complete language coursework as well meeting with a native speaker language partner.
Languages offered: Arabic, Azerbaijani, Bangla, Chinese, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Punjabi, Russian, Turkish, and Urdu. Language levels are classified as Beginning, Advanced Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced. The CLS Program provides undergraduate academic credit through Bryn Mawr College. Upon completion of the program, participants also receive a certified American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) score.

All CLS Program costs are covered. Funds international and domestic travel, related costs for a mandatory Pre-Departure Orientation in Washington, D.C., visa fees, language instruction, room, board, program sponsored travel within the host country.

AM I ELIGIBLE?
At the time of application, applicants must be enrolled at an accredited US degree-granting program at the undergraduate or graduate (master’s, doctoral, or professional degree) level.
Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited degree-granting institution that is physically located in the US.
Must be at least 18 years old.
Must be in acceptable mental and physical health.
Undergraduate students must have completed at least one academic year of study (two semesters or three quarters).
Ability to participate in the CLS Program is contingent upon an applicant’s ability to receive a visa to the CLS institute host country.
Ask a professional to assess the applicants skill level of the target language.
2 letters of recommendation.
If applying for a language at the advanced beginning, intermediate, or advanced level, the applicant must also provide a language evaluation form.
Transcripts.
While there is no service requirement attached to CLS Program awards, participants are expected to continue their language study beyond the scholarship period and later apply their critical language skills in their professional careers.
Fellows will go to Washington, DC, for the pre-departure orientation.

Open only to U.S. citizens. Permanent and non-US citizens are not eligible.

The Classroom Assistant will support the classrooms serving children from ages 0-3 years and creating and maintaining a safe and stimulating environment for young children. This position is responsible for daily care of the children enrolled in his/her class. Minimum Education and Experience |
AA degree, preferably in the field of Early Childhood Education of Child Development from an accredited public or private institution of higher education. Child Development Associate (CDA) credential for Preschool Caregivers required or an equivalent credential that addresses comparable competencies; or must obtain the credential within one year of employment as a Classroom Assistant II. |

Must have (or be willing to obtain) training and experience necessary to develop consistent, stable, and supportive relationships with very young children. Ability to work as part of a multi-program/disciplinary team in providing a variety of services to children and families. Experience working with children from low income families. Valid First Aid/CPR card, food handler’s card, negative TB test, and clear criminal background check required. |

Required Education: Must be currently enrolled in the current Fall 2018 Term as a student at the University of Oklahoma. Hiring contingent upon verification of current student status.

Skills:
- Strong computer programming skills with particular emphasis on Python and PostgreSQL
- Strong familiarity with the UNIX/Linux operating environment and web services such as Nginx, Django and RESTful web applications
Department Preferences:
- Optional experience with mobile app development on Android and/or iOS is a plus
- Experience debugging and/or trouble shooting software and hardware issues
- Experience working with complex software applications and web-based communications
