Working Title | Alumni Scholarship Program Intern |
Department | Alumni Office |
About the University | Founded in 1871 as a land-grant institution, the University of Arkansas is classified by the Carnegie Foundation among the top two percent of universities in the nation with the highest level of research activity. Ten colleges and schools serve more than 26,700 students with more than 200 academic programs. University of Arkansas students earn nationally competitive awards at an impressive rate and represent 50 states and more than 120 countries. |
About the College/Department | The Arkansas Alumni Association scholarship program has become a cornerstone of the Association. In 1990 the Association accepted the challenge to fund a merit scholarship – a scholarship that would reward students for their accomplishments in the academic and leadership arena. The idea took hold and grew into several different scholarships with the same central idea- attract outstanding students to the University of Arkansas. What began with 9 scholarships totaling $6,200 has grown into a program that annually supports more than 450 students with over $1,000,000 in scholarships. The majority of alumni scholarship recipients are selected as freshmen and given renewable awards. Freshman recipients are selected on the basis of academic potential, leadership, character, and service. The Alumni Association staff seeks to engage alumni scholars during their time on campus and watch scholars become active alumni after graduation. |
