Duke Kunshan University invites applications for faculty positions in Chinese language (Instructor/Lecturer/Senior Lecturer) in its Language and Culture Center. DKU offers an innovative, integrated and interdisciplinary liberal arts undergraduate program leading to both Duke and DKU degrees, and the Language and Culture Center provides Chinese language courses at all levels, ranging from beginning to advanced, to international students in this program. Positions start in July 2019.

All candidates must have a graduate degree in a relevant field (e.g. Chinese language teaching, foreign language education, applied linguistics), and also language teaching experience. In addition to mastery of spoken and written Chinese, candidates should have strong English skills. Preference will be given to candidates who:

  • speak additional languages;
  • have studied intercultural communication and/or have experience working in multi-cultural settings.

Experience presenting at workshops and conferences and/or writing for publication is also an asset. 

Applicants should provide a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, a teaching/research statement, and arrange to have three letters of reference submitted. Duke Kunshan University is not accredited by SACSCOC and the accreditation of Duke University does not extend to or include Duke Kunshan University or its students. Note that DKU undergraduate students successfully completing the course of study required by Duke Kunshan University will be conferred both a DKU graduation certificate and diploma officially approved by the MOE as well as a diploma from Duke University (Duke University and its degrees are accredited by SACSCOC). Further, although Duke University agrees to accept certain course work from Duke Kunshan University to be applied toward an award from Duke University, that course work may not be accepted by other colleges or universities in transfer, even if it appears on a transcript from Duke University. The decision to accept course work in transfer from any institution is made by the institution considering the acceptance of credits or course work.

Duke Kunshan University invites applications for EAP faculty positions (Instructor/Lecturer/Senior Lecturer) in its Language and Culture Center. DKU offers an innovative, integrated and interdisciplinary liberal arts undergraduate program leading to both Duke and DKU degrees, and in this program Language and Culture Center faculty teach EAP courses to EFL students. These EAP courses, which emphasize academic writing and critical thinking skills, are designed around issues relating to language and culture. DKU also offers graduate programs in which LCC faculty teach EAP courses focusing on advanced oral and written communication skills. Positions start in July 2019.

 All candidates must have a graduate degree in a relevant field such as language teaching, applied linguistics, or academic writing. Candidates should have foreign language teaching experience, strong oral and written communication skills, and personal experience with and commitment to foreign language learning. Preference will be given to candidates who:

  • speak additional languages;
  • have studied intercultural communication and have experience working in multi-cultural settings;
  • have experience presenting at workshops and conferences and/or writing for publication. 

Previous experience living and/or working in China/Asia is also an asset.
