Emergency Management Post Bachelor Student


What You Will Do_

Be part of a highly specialized team that makes a real difference in security and emergency operations working at a state of the art Emergency Operations Center.

The SEO student program provides mentoring, hands-on technical experience, and professional development opportunities through a formalized work plan complementing the student’s chosen area of study.

Examples of projects in the SEO Division include, but are not limited to:

  • Preparing first responders, the workforce, and offsite stakeholders for disasters and emergency events;

  • Participating in emergency planning, training, drills, exercises, and other readiness assurance activities;

  • Assisting with programmatic assessments and the identification of improvement items, corrective actions, and lessons learned;

  • Managing data and analyzing established metrics;

  • Website improvements and maintenance;

  • Writing, editing, and formatting professional documents.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Basic understanding of emergency management principles, concepts, and practices.

  • Experience in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions to problems.

  • Experience with administrative and business systems including MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook).

  • Experience developing high quality presentations or briefings using Microsoft PowerPoint.

  • Experience engaging people and assisting in building consensus.

  • Experience working in a team environment.

  • Demonstrated skills in written and oral communication.

  • Candidates must submit a transcript, cover letter, and resume along with their application

  • Applicants must submit a 2-4-page academic or professional writing sample with application

Desired Skills:

  • Experience working in emergency readiness assurance, as defined in DOE Order 151.1C/D, contractor performance assurance, or quality assurance at a DOE site.

  • Experience with performance/process improvement principles such as conducting audits or assessments; developing and using lessons learned; conducting risk characterization; identifying and tracking issues and corrective actions; and performing causal analysis.

  • Experience with technical writing, editing, and development of plans, procedures, forms and/or checklists.

  • Experience with MS Project or Primavera scheduling programs.

  • Experience updating SharePoint webpages.

Education:

Completion of a Bachelor’s degree within the past 3 years or soon to be completed, with a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale

Additional Details:

No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

The Security and Emergency Operations (SEO) Division at LANL is comprised of highly skilled and experienced emergency preparedness, response, and deployed security professionals who help ensure LANL’s compliance with emergency management and security directives from the Department of Energy, the National Nuclear Security Administration, and the Department of Homeland Security, as well as other federal, state, and local requirements. Posting Summary

The Classroom Assistant will support the classrooms serving children from ages 0-3 years and creating and maintaining a safe and stimulating environment for young children. This position is responsible for daily care of the children enrolled in his/her class. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: physical caregiving, following an age appropriate daily plan, and facilitation of supportive relationships with co-workers, parents, and students. The Classroom Assistant II ensures, supports, and promotes each child’s safety, health, and development in cooperation with their families and other early childhood professionals in a manner consistent with NAEYC, NJDHS and child care licensing regulations

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

AA degree, preferably in the field of Early Childhood Education of Child Development from an accredited public or private institution of higher education. Child Development Associate (CDA) credential for Preschool Caregivers required or an equivalent credential that addresses comparable competencies; or must obtain the credential within one year of employment as a Classroom Assistant II.

Preferred Qualifications
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Must have (or be willing to obtain) training and experience necessary to develop consistent, stable, and supportive relationships with very young children. Ability to work as part of a multi-program/disciplinary team in providing a variety of services to children and families. Experience working with children from low income families. Valid First Aid/CPR card, food handler’s card, negative TB test, and clear criminal background check required.

Job Description

 

The Cooperative Institute for Mesoscale Meteorological Studies (CIMMS) seeks to fill a Student Assistant position to contribute to CIMMS Meteorological Phenomena Identification Near the Ground (mPING) project (http://mping.ou.edu/).

The principal duties of this position are:

  • Develop technical expertise with the Python/Django RESTful system and the packages and tools used in the mPING project
  • Develop a plan for system improvements and changes to the mPING system with CIMMS personnel
  • Document the project by way of creating appropriate wiki pages
  • Potentially work on creating automated backup and system monitoring tools
  • Potentially make modifications and improvements to the iOS and Android mPING apps
  • Potentially develop new display web tools for research purposes
  •  

     

    Job Requirements

     

    Required Education: Must be currently enrolled in the current Fall 2018 Term as a student at the University of Oklahoma. Hiring contingent upon verification of current student status.

    • Must attach Fall 2018 oZONE class schedule.

    Skills:

    • Strong computer programming skills with particular emphasis on Python and PostgreSQL
    • Strong familiarity with the UNIX/Linux operating environment and web services such as Nginx, Django and RESTful web applications

    Department Preferences:

    • Optional experience with mobile app development on Android and/or iOS is a plus
    • Experience debugging and/or trouble shooting software and hardware issues
    • Experience working with complex software applications and web-based communications
