Strategic Development provides advice and practical support to the Executive Board of the TU Delft in several domains, including current national policy issues in the area of higher education, strategic planning for the university, promoting research, (inter)national cooperation, research funding and business intelligence.
Employees have expertise and experience in working within a large, complex organisation, as well as strong conceptual abilities, adaptability and organisation sensitivity. They are results- and product-oriented and have a well developed capacity to operate in a complex network in close contact with the institutional board.
The TU Delft is an influential participant in the European Research Programme Horizon2020 in the Netherlands and Europe. The TU Delft aspires to further expand its position and is therefore seeking an EU Funding Advisor to strength the EU team of advisors. This team has a diverse composition.
Job description
The position’s main goal is to provide support to scientific staff by creating, quickly recognising, and exploiting possibilities for external research funding from the EU in the so-called “pre-award” phase. You therefore consult with scientists within the TU Delft, with partnering knowledge institutes and universities, large (EIT) consortia, and officials within the European Commission. You facilitate researchers by attracting research funding. You inform, support, and train the scientific staff in prepararing project applications for EU funding. You have a solution-oriented practical role in the (digital) application process. You therefore maintain a network of internal and external relations and continue to expand this network. Together with your direct colleagues, you function as an information source for the scientific staff and external parties. In addition, you provide policy input and support to the Executive Board.
Requirements
Whom are we seeking, and what are we asking for?
You have an academic level of performance, supplemented by 2 to 3 years of solid experience in the area of (EU) project consultation and (EU) funding for scientific research. Demonstrated affinity for a complex and dynamic working envvironment such as a university is an asset. We expect proven applicable expertise, sharp analytical skills, a relevant network and ability to develop contacts with faculties, colleagues within the university service, colleagues from other universities, and other relevant entitities (such as the NCP). You are good at functioning within an organisation and have a good feel for administrative processes in a complex organisation like the university. You have an oustanding capacity for achieving results in an organisation of scientific professionals.
You know how to translate your expertise in the Horizon2020 application procedures and financial conditions directly into practical advice for researchers, project managers, and contract managers. You often perform these tasks yourself. Support in submitting H2020 project applications encompasses the following:
• Gathering administrative data from the partners and entering it in the Participant Portal;
• Gathering and presentation of partner descriptions as required for an H2020 submission;
• Gathering and analysis of financial data as required for setting up the project budget as a whole, taking into account the regulations of the funding source, in cooperation with our financial department;
• Providing instructions to applicants and helping them navigate their way in the Participant Portal;
• Providing input for the work package project coordination and the section management structure and procedures in cooperation with the project coordination team.
Other requirements:
• Mastery of MS Office applications
• Knowledge of H2020 funding regulations
• Proactive, result-oriented work attitude
• Customer- and service-oriented approach,
• Perserverence in achieving goals, including under pressure and with strict deadlines,
• No 9 to 5 mentality
• Good administrative and organisational qualities
• Flexibility and collegial manner
• Good written and spoken communication skills (Dutch and English) are necessary for this position, as is the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Conditions of employment
The function is for 38 hours (1 FTE). The salary is based on scale 11 (maximum € 4.757 – gross per month), based on a full working week. The appointment is temporary till 1-1-2021.
