Applications are invited for a position as a senior researcher at Department of Biomedicine, Faculty of Health, Aarhus University with start on 1 August 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is part time (18 hours/week).
The position is dedicated to research in functional and structural studies of membranes and their interaction with membrane proteins. In particular ion-channels and membrane transporters in relation to the identification and exploration of appropriate compounds that interact with these targets and thereby can lead to the development of drugs useful in the treatment for various diseases and medical conditions.
The successful candidate will be expected to carry on research related to the function of ion-channels and artificial build ion-channels with focus on biochemical characterization, structural studies and drug development.
The candidate is expected to have a thorough knowledge and experience in the field of membrane proteins, including their expression, biochemical characterization and structure determination. The candidate will furthermore be expected to master structure determination of complexes of targets and drug candidates, structure-based drug design and docking procedures for development of new drug candidates.
The candidate will in addition to the mentioned researched be expected to acts as Research Business Manager for the department. This entails:
take the initiative and support cooperation with business and industry, other units at Aarhus University or other parties
help to ensure that relevant information finds the right recipient, regardless of whether the recipient is located at the ambassador’s own department or unit or elsewhere in the university or its surroundings
ensure the gathering of experience and internal coordination at Aarhus University

Required qualifications
Appointment as a senior researcher requires research and teaching qualifications at such level as can be attained following a satisfactory period of appointment as a researcher, but which could also be achieved otherwise. It is assumed that applicants have received supervision and training in university education and have received a positive written assessment of their teaching qualifications.

We are offering a PhD scholarship inprevention of post-weaning diarrhoea in pigs commencing 31 December 2018.
Our group and research
In our section with
approximately 50 employees we are working with production, nutrition and health
aspects in farmed animals. The pig health research group with approximately 10
employees has a strong focus on tools for antibiotic reduction in pig herds.
Project description
The aim of the project is to test E. coli specific bacteriophages used for
prevention of post-weaning diarrhoea in piglets.

Job description
Your key tasks as a PhD student are:
- Carry through an
independent research project under supervision. - Complete PhD courses or other equivalent education corresponding
to approx. 30 ECTS points. - Participate in active research environments including a stay at
another research team. - Obtain experience with teaching or other types of dissemination related
to your PhD project. - Teach and disseminate your research.
- Write a PhD thesis on the grounds of your project.

Terms of employment and employment
The employment as PhD fellow is a full
time and for 3 years. Starting date is December 31, 2018, or after agreement.
The appointment as a PhD fellow is for 3
years. It is conditioned upon the candidate’s successful enrolment in the PhD
school at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.
This requires submission and acceptance of an application for the specific
project formulated by the applicant.
The PhD study must be
completed in accordance with The Ministerial Order on the PhD programme (2013)
and the University’s rules on achieving the degree. Salary, pension and terms
of employment are in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of
Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics
in the State. Depending on seniority, the monthly salary begins around 26,755
DKK /approx. 3,567 EUR (April 2018-level) plus pension.

PhD on Post Translational Modifications of Therapeutic Proteins
Applications are invited for a 3-year PhD fellowship on understanding the molecular interactions that produce post translational modifications of secreted proteins and applying that knowledge towards production of pharmaceutical biologics. The project will be carried out at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability, Technical University of Denmark (DTU) in the CHO cell line engineering and development group under supervision of Dr. Lasse Ebdrup Pedersen.
The mammalian bio-pharmaceutical industry produces therapeutic proteins to treat numerous diseases such as cancer, anemia and haemophilia. The most used mammalian cell factory is the Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cell. Our group is a world leading CHO research group and we seek to improve our understanding of basic cell biology in the area of protein production and to apply that knowledge to predictably produce high quantity and high quality therapeutic proteins.
Responsibilities and tasks
The candidate will do research in the area of post-translational modifications during protein production. The candidate will employ advanced molecular biology tools and the latest -omic technologies, including genomics, proteomics and data analysis.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Wet lab work on molecular biology, mammalian cell biology and high-throughput screening.
- Computational work on -omic data analysis
- Dissemination of results through scientific publications, patents and conference presentations.
- Supervision of MSc or BSc students.
The PhD study also comprises courses equivalent to 30 ECTS credits and an international secondment of 3-6 months duration.
Qualifications
Candidates should have a master’s degree in engineering or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to the master’s degree in engineering. A degree in Molecular biology, Biotechnology or similar is preferred.
The candidate should possess most of the following:
- Ability to work independently, to plan and carry out complicated research tasks, and also to be a part of the large research team;
- Team spirit and excellent collaboration skills
- Proficiency with sterile mammalian cell work and molecular biology techniques
- Computer proficiency. Ideally proficient in python.
- Strong analytical skills and excellent judgment ability
- Excellent communication skills, fluent written and oral English
- Well-organized, efficient, result-oriented, have excellent record keeping abilities.
