Job Description

The Residence Life Student Staff Member is a part-time student staff position (minimum 20 hours per week). The student staff assists with a designated section of student housing. Staff are responsible for actively working with the residents to develop a sense of community through ongoing communication, program development, and modeling an enthusiastic commitment to an environment that is conducive to personal, social, cultural, and intellectual growth.
The student staff are supervised directly by the Hall Director (HD) and indirectly by other professional staff within the Department of Housing and Residence Life. Staff maintain a close working relationship with other Department of Housing and Residence Life staff members, primarily the full-time staff of the Department. The staff are required to participate in a variety of meetings as well as interact with the HD on a daily basis.
The role of the staff is broad. Residents and staff may call upon the student staff at any time, night or day. Individual resident needs require the staff to utilize his/her abilities to the fullest, recognize his/her limitations and, when necessary, seek the help of other student or professional staff members.

Minimum Qualifications

Must be a student enrolled at the University of West Florida and living on campus in a residence hall.

Preferred Qualifications

This position requires independent thinking, judgment, and decision-making ability with little or no direct supervision. May involve supervision and training of others.

A. Registration as a full-time, UWF, degree-seeking student for each semester of employment. Student staff members MUST register during pre-registration/academic advising to be eligible for employment for the upcoming semester. Applicants with undergraduate student status must be registered for at least 12 credit hours per semester, not to exceed 18 credit hours per semester. Applicants with graduate student status must be registered for a minimum of nine (9) credit hours per semester, no more than 12 credit hours per semester. Any exceptions must be approved by the RLC/AD.
B. Minimum classification as a sophomore as defined by the University of West Florida, or having attended the University of West Florida as a full-time student for two semesters, by the first day of employment.
C. Be in good academic standing with the University. This is defined as a cumulative UWF GPA of 2.5 for undergraduate students and 3.0 for graduate students during the term of employment. Returning staff members interested in being considered for one of our Living Learning Community staff positions must have and maintain a cumulative UWF GPA of 3.0 GPA or higher. Grades from other universities are not calculated into the cumulative UWF GPA. Staff failing to meet any of these academic requirements during any one semester will be placed on academic probation or terminated. Staff who fail to meet any of these requirements for two consecutive semesters will be terminated.
D. Be in good standing with the University of West Florida and the Department of Housing and Residence Life. For example, but not limited to the following: student conduct probation, outstanding financial obligations, etc.
E. Availability for the entire academic year (BOTH Fall and Spring semesters). Summer session employment opportunities may be available to those staff members who are currently employed by the Department of Housing and Residence Life.
F. A willingness and ability to report for staff training approximately two weeks prior to Opening Day for the Fall semester and three to five days prior to the start of the Spring semester.
G. Availability to attend Res Life Training, staff on-going training and other training sessions deemed necessary by the HRL staff. All staff meetings will take place on Monday evenings at 9:00 PM. Each applicant must have flexibility in their course schedule to accommodate these staff meetings. Staff are encouraged to avoid registering for classes beginning after 5:00 pm for duty rotation and training purposes.
H. Effective communication, leadership, and organizational skills. This includes checking and responding to mail or notices received via the staff’s University email, the University Post Office box, and the staff mailbox on a daily basis.
I. A respect for, and appreciation of, the diversity of the University Housing population.
J. A willingness and ability to work daytime, evening, and weekend hours as scheduled, plus hours during holidays and between academic terms.
K. A willingness and ability to remain on campus until closing duties have been completed and until the HD gives authorization to leave. During fall, spring, and holiday breaks, staff are required to continue duty rotation.

Salary Range $2,200 stipend paid bi-weekly over two semesters for Fall & Spring semesters

Posting Summary

The Classroom Assistant will support the classrooms serving children from ages 0-3 years and creating and maintaining a safe and stimulating environment for young children. This position is responsible for daily care of the children enrolled in his/her class. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: physical caregiving, following an age appropriate daily plan, and facilitation of supportive relationships with co-workers, parents, and students. The Classroom Assistant II ensures, supports, and promotes each child’s safety, health, and development in cooperation with their families and other early childhood professionals in a manner consistent with NAEYC, NJDHS and child care licensing regulations

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

AA degree, preferably in the field of Early Childhood Education of Child Development from an accredited public or private institution of higher education. Child Development Associate (CDA) credential for Preschool Caregivers required or an equivalent credential that addresses comparable competencies; or must obtain the credential within one year of employment as a Classroom Assistant II.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Must have (or be willing to obtain) training and experience necessary to develop consistent, stable, and supportive relationships with very young children. Ability to work as part of a multi-program/disciplinary team in providing a variety of services to children and families. Experience working with children from low income families. Valid First Aid/CPR card, food handler’s card, negative TB test, and clear criminal background check required.

Job Description

 

The Cooperative Institute for Mesoscale Meteorological Studies (CIMMS) seeks to fill a Student Assistant position to contribute to CIMMS Meteorological Phenomena Identification Near the Ground (mPING) project (http://mping.ou.edu/).

The principal duties of this position are:

  • Develop technical expertise with the Python/Django RESTful system and the packages and tools used in the mPING project
  • Develop a plan for system improvements and changes to the mPING system with CIMMS personnel
  • Document the project by way of creating appropriate wiki pages
  • Potentially work on creating automated backup and system monitoring tools
  • Potentially make modifications and improvements to the iOS and Android mPING apps
  • Potentially develop new display web tools for research purposes
  •  

     

    Job Requirements

     

    Required Education: Must be currently enrolled in the current Fall 2018 Term as a student at the University of Oklahoma. Hiring contingent upon verification of current student status.

    • Must attach Fall 2018 oZONE class schedule.

    Skills:

    • Strong computer programming skills with particular emphasis on Python and PostgreSQL
    • Strong familiarity with the UNIX/Linux operating environment and web services such as Nginx, Django and RESTful web applications

    Department Preferences:

    • Optional experience with mobile app development on Android and/or iOS is a plus
