The Allegheny College is placed to announce the Blair Hanson Scholarship in honor of the dedication of Dr. Blair Hanson, Professor of French and Chairperson of the Modern Languages Department. The program is open to foreign language students who have a 3.0 average in language courses.The purpose of the scholarship is to consider the factors indicating a seriousness of purpose with regard to language study and international concerns.The winners of the Blair Hanson Scholarship will receive an award to be used to defray part of the expenses of a period of study abroad for the next academic year.
Founded in 1815, Allegheny College ranks among the oldest 1% of colleges and universities and is the 32nd oldest college in the United States.Perhaps as many as 100 colleges were established and failed before the Civil War. Allegheny is one of the hardy survivors that testify daily to the determination and vision of those early pioneers of higher education in America.
- Must be a foreign language student
- The minimum a 3.0 average in language courses
- Candidates for the award need not be language majors.

Personal Essay (typed, double-spaced, attached to application) describing the reasons for deciding to study in another country, specific goals and plans for the period abroad, and any other comments that would support an application for the award.
