Job Summary
Under the direction of the Lead Custodian, Custodial Supervisor and Custodial Manager, the incumbent performs cleaning maintenance assignments in various University buildings and external spaces.
FLSA
Non-Exempt – This position is covered by health benefits, and is non-exempt, (eligible for overtime compensation) according to the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Department Information
Facilities Management is the steward for the University buildings, infrastructure, grounds and landscape. We perform maintenance and renovation to facilities, plan and manage new building construction and support the Redefine the Possible initiative through our commitment to building a welcoming campus and by creating a dynamic physical environment for students, faculty, staff, and the community.
Custodial Services is responsible for cleaning activities in all general-fund supported university facilities. This professional staff maintains a safe and healthy setting for students, faculty, staff and guests in pursuit of our education mission. Typical services include cleaning, sanitizing, floor care, stocking sanitary supplies and collecting and disposing of refuse. http://csus.edu/aba/facilities/index.html
Minimum Qualifications
Abilities:
Ability to read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position; follow verbal and written instructions to ensure safety; operate and care for custodial equipment and supplies applicable to the position; use custodial systems such as those used to track work orders and two-way radios for communication; observe safety requirements and safe work practices and methods as required; perform work involving regular physical activity; and establish and maintain cooperative work relationships. Some positions may require ability to move up to 50 pounds.
License:
Some positions may require possession of a valid California driver’s license.
Required Qualifications
Knowledge/Abilities:
1. Knowledge of common custodial procedures and methods
2. Knowledge of safe cleaning practices
3. Ability to provide excellent customer service
4. Good interpersonal skills to maintain effective working relationships
5. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a diverse environment.
Work Schedule Requirements:
6. Ability to work irregular work shifts, including weekends and holidays
Preferred Qualifications
7. Related janitorial/custodial experience working in a higher education, school district, or other institutional environment.
Physical Demands
8. Ability to maintain physical condition necessary for occasional lifting and carrying (up to 50 pounds)
Required Licenses/Certifications
9. Possession of a valid California driver’s license.
