Work Hours per week:
20-25 hours a week (which may include Wednesday evenings) in a work schedule that coincides with our public office hours. Ideal candidate would be able to start in early November.
Position Summary
As part of a two-person team, the Merit Awards Program Assistant provides front-line support for a busy student-centered office. The Office of Merit Awards oversees the mentoring of applicants for nationally competitive, merit-based scholarships (such as the Fulbright Grant and Boren Scholarship) that help fund study abroad, graduate education, and high-level work and research experience.
The Merit Awards Program Assistant is responsible for providing front-line service in the form of scheduling appointments, with support from the other program assistant. Other duties include promoting scholarship information sessions and workshops, preparing materials and handouts, maintaining an award database, tracking applicants and maintaining candidates’ dossiers, and assisting the office’s Associate Director with the Early Identification Program for outstanding sophomores. Interacts with students, faculty and staff mentors, and national scholarship foundation representatives.
This position offers an excellent opportunity for a graduate student interested in international education, study abroad, or exchange to gain exposure to scholarship opportunities.

Minimum Requirements
The ideal candidate will be highly organized with strong editing and writing skills. Must be comfortable in a fast-paced environment; experience in a customer-service position required. The candidate should be personable, dependable, willing to take initiative and work independently, and have experience using Microsoft programs.
Preferred Requirements
Preference will be given to candidates who can commit to working more than one semester, and to candidates who have demonstrated knowledge of nationally competitive scholarships.

Minimum Education and Experience |
AA degree, preferably in the field of Early Childhood Education of Child Development from an accredited public or private institution of higher education. Child Development Associate (CDA) credential for Preschool Caregivers required or an equivalent credential that addresses comparable competencies; or must obtain the credential within one year of employment as a Classroom Assistant II. |

Must have (or be willing to obtain) training and experience necessary to develop consistent, stable, and supportive relationships with very young children. Ability to work as part of a multi-program/disciplinary team in providing a variety of services to children and families. Experience working with children from low income families. Valid First Aid/CPR card, food handler’s card, negative TB test, and clear criminal background check required. |

Skills:
- Strong computer programming skills with particular emphasis on Python and PostgreSQL
