Job Description
Occ Summary CLASSIFICATION ESTABLISHED FOR ANY NON-DUKE STUDENT PAID AT AN HOURLY RATE. THIS INCLUDES HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS, VISITING UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS, AND HOURLY VISITING GRADUATE STUDENTS. THEINCUMBENT WILLPERFORM VARIOUS D UTIES AS ASSIGNED BY THE DEPARTMENT. INCUMBENTS ARE COMPENSATED AT VARYING RATES OF PAY BASED UPON THE WORK BEING PERFORMED AND ACCORDING TO THE PAY SCHEDULE DEVELOPED AND MAINTAINED FOR EACH DEPARTMENT. INCUMBENTS MUST BE PAID AT LEAST MINIMUM WAGE. Since 2005, the Duke Center for Personalized Health Care has worked to support the development and implementation of personalized, proactive, and patient-centered approaches to health care. Our internship program at the Center offers current students the unique opportunity to immerse themselves for a semester or summer in personalized health care. Interns are exposed to the works of some of the top thinkers and professionals in the field, including Dr. Ralph Snyderman, the Director of the Center and the Father of Personalized Medicine. Interns serve the Center’s think tank function by learning about the clinical applications of personalized health care as well as assisting in refining the practical tools needed to bring these applications into reality. The program offers interns the freedom to explore personalized health care as it relates to their interests through blog posts, support of the Center’s research studies, and individual projects. Our goal is to make this experience just as enriching for interns as it is for the Center. This unique program is a great opportunity for individuals seeking to move into fields such as healthcare administration, health policy, public policy, pre-med/health sciences, clinical research, economics, business and communications. Provide administrative support of qualitative and quantitative research and quality improvement initiatives and assist with programmatic functions of the Center as needed Creation of a final deliverable at the end of the internship for a project to be developed during onboarding closely tied to the overall project portfolio of the Center Assist with the development and implementation of a communications strategy for increasing the Duke Center for Personalized Health Care’s visibility and impact Develop and publish original content for the Center for Personalized Health Care blog and website Play a key role in managing the Center’s social media accounts Current undergraduate student or recent graduate with an interest in health care Desire to learn and analyze new material Self-motivated and innovative individual with an entrepreneurial mindset and organizational skills Ability to pivot between priorities and projects based on the Center’s current needs Full comprehension of Microsoft Office Suite Understanding of blogging and social media outreach Statistical analysis experience (using STATA, SAS, or R) or willingness to learn Suggested (but not required): Studied in the area(s) of: pre-med/health sciences, public policy, economics, business, communications, or global health Interest in novel approaches to health care design, including personalized and precision medicine Sensitivity to cultural differences and needs as it relates to health care and vulnerable populations Summer intern must be able to be present at Durham office a minimum of 30 hours per week for a 6-8 week internship position spanning June to August

The Stardust Center for Affordable Homes and the Family is offering a limited number of scholarships to support Master of Sustainability Solutions (MSUS) students who have proposed culminating experience projects designed to address and advance the need for affordable housing, recognizing that healthy sustainable communities provide a means for families to obtain, remain in and manage their homes.
Culminating experience projects may use the tools of research, community engagement, education, and public forums to raise awareness and build capacity to address the needs for quality affordable homes.
