Eligibility & selection criteria
EligibilityTo be eligible for this scholarship, you need to:
- have graduated from any Australian university or be currently enrolled at the University of Melbourne;
- intend to undertake graduate study or research at an overseas educational institution
- not have completed a course of study at the same or higher level as the proposed overseas study
- not previously have been awarded a Prestigious Travelling Scholarship
Selection criteria
Eligible applicants are selected on the basis of academic merit, their personal qualities and financial position, and the specific requirements of the individual scholarships (refer to Variations below).

Variations of this scholarship
Rae and Edith Bennett Travelling ScholarshipEstablished with bequests from Rae and Edith Bennett, this scholarship is available to currently enrolled students at or graduates from the University of Melbourne who are Australian citizens or permanent residents and intend to undertaking graduate study or research in England, Scotland Wales or Northern Ireland.
The Rae and Edith Bennett Travelling Scholarship provides an allowance of up to $60,000 per year for the normal full-time duration of the overseas study with a maximum of two years. The scholarship may be extended with one year in exceptional circumstances.
The University may award up to 6 scholarships per year.
W.E.J Craig Travelling Scholarship
The W.E.J. Craig Travelling Scholarship was established by an anonymous donor, this scholarships is available to graduates from the University of Melbourne who are an Australian citizens or permanent residents and intend to undertake research in the area of animal husbandry at an overseas institution. Preference is given to students intending to study at Queen’s University Belfast.
The W.E.J. Craig Traveling Scholarship provides a living allowance of up to $30,000 per year for the normal full-time duration of the overseas study with a maximum of three years.
The University usually offer 1 scholarship per year.
Sir Arthur Sims Travelling Scholarship
Established with a donation from Sir Arthur Sims, this scholarship is available to graduates from any Australian university who were born in Australia or have parents who have been Australian residents for seven years with their period of residence commencing within three years of the birth of the applicant, and who intend to undertake further graduate study or research at a university in Great Britain.
The Sir Arthur Sims Travelling Scholarship provides an allowance of up to $15,000 per year for the normal full-time duration of the overseas study for a maximum of three years. The scholarship may be extended with one year in exceptional circumstances.
The University usually offers 1 scholarship every two years.

Australia Scholarships
ANU Master of Philosophy Scholarship »
Overview
ANU Master of Philosophy Scholarships are funded by individual academic Colleges. It is expected that recipients will study on a full-time basis. However, in accordance with strict criteria, the scholarship can be awarded for part-time study. International scholars must undertake study on a full-time basis.
Eligibility
The scholarships are available to potential and current students who:
- are domestic or international students; and
- have applied for admission to a Master of Philosophy Research program at the ANU; and
- have a Bachelor degree with first-class Honours (some Colleges may consider applicants with upper second-class Honours), or a Master degree with a research component from a recognised University.
Benefits
- Travel & removal allowance for students relocating to Canberra to commence their Master of Philosophy program;
- Dependant Child Allowance (International students only)
- Thesis Allowance

No application is necessary as all eligible students will be considered.
Further information
In order to be considered for this scholarship in the main round of scholarship offers International students are required to apply for admission by 31 August. Domestic students are required to apply for admission by 31 October. Colleges may consider offering these scholarships at any time of the year..
It is strongly encouraged to make contact with the relevant Graduate Studies Convener or a prospective supervisor, prior to lodging an application for admission, to discuss the proposed research topic and related matters.

Overview
A number of ANU Tuition Scholarships are funded and awarded by individual Colleges and determined as part of the application process. This scholarship covers international student tuition fees.
Eligibility
Bachelor degree with first-class or upper second class honours, or a research Master degree from a recognised university; International students.
Eligible program: Master of Philosophy
How to apply
Applicants are strongly encouraged to contact the relevant Graduate Studies Convener or a prospective supervisor, prior to lodging an application, to discuss the proposed research topic and related matters.
Further information
It is expected that the scholarship normally will be taken up by 31 March in the year for which it is awarded, although, subject to the approval of the prospective supervisor, Head of Department and Dean/Director, a later start date may be possible. The date by which a scholarship must be taken up in a particular instance will be made clear in the formal letter of offer for the scholarship.
