The role
Candidates are now invited to submit an expression of interest to undertake a PhD study on the role of architecture and urban infrastructure in the making of contemporary Asia Pacific cities, characterised by both rapid industrial growth and significant urban transformation. The selected candidate will consider the production of architecture and urban space in the Asia Pacific region in relation to local political and economic agendas and city-branding strategies. The candidate will work under the supervision of Dr Silvia Micheli . The school will provide the APA scholarship (see details below).
The person
The project would suit applicants with degrees in architecture or in other relevant disciplines. The PhD candidate will demostrate to be able to formulate a significant problem, to develop mastery of appropriate conceptual and methodological skills, and to relate the research topic to a broader framework of knowledge in a relevant disciplinary area.
Mandatory requirements for applicants:
1. Excellent academic performance to Masters level, evidenced by a high Grade Point Average (GPA); and
2. International applicants must meet the University of Queensland’s English Language Proficiency (ELP) requirements, detailed at http://www.uq.edu.au/grad-school/english-language-proficiency-requirements
Desirable requirements: 1 or more publications, design experience and/or background in Asia Pacific architectural context.

Remuneration
A School of Architecture Scholarship, equivalent in value to an APA (Australian Postgraduate Award ) Scholarship (covering living expenses), is available for the above project. The Scholarship has a stipend of AUD$27,082 per annum (2018 rate, indexed annually) for three years. Students from Australian and New Zealand are not required to pay tuition fees. International students will be expected to apply for UQ scholarships for international students for tuition support (for more information, please visit: http://www.uq.edu.au/grad-school/scholarships-and-fees ). Prospective international students will be provided with assistance to apply for tuition scholarship.The successful candidate is required to take up residence in Brisbane. ANU Master of Philosophy Scholarship »
Overview
ANU Master of Philosophy Scholarships are funded by individual academic Colleges. It is expected that recipients will study on a full-time basis. However, in accordance with strict criteria, the scholarship can be awarded for part-time study. International scholars must undertake study on a full-time basis.
Eligibility
The scholarships are available to potential and current students who:
- are domestic or international students; and
- have applied for admission to a Master of Philosophy Research program at the ANU; and
- have a Bachelor degree with first-class Honours (some Colleges may consider applicants with upper second-class Honours), or a Master degree with a research component from a recognised University.
Benefits
- Travel & removal allowance for students relocating to Canberra to commence their Master of Philosophy program;
- Dependant Child Allowance (International students only)
- Thesis Allowance

In order to be considered for this scholarship in the main round of scholarship offers International students are required to apply for admission by 31 August. Domestic students are required to apply for admission by 31 October. Colleges may consider offering these scholarships at any time of the year..

A number of ANU Tuition Scholarships are funded and awarded by individual Colleges and determined as part of the application process. This scholarship covers international student tuition fees.
Eligibility
Bachelor degree with first-class or upper second class honours, or a research Master degree from a recognised university; International students.

Applicants are strongly encouraged to contact the relevant Graduate Studies Convener or a prospective supervisor, prior to lodging an application, to discuss the proposed research topic and related matters.
Further information
It is expected that the scholarship normally will be taken up by 31 March in the year for which it is awarded, although, subject to the approval of the prospective supervisor, Head of Department and Dean/Director, a later start date may be possible. The date by which a scholarship must be taken up in a particular instance will be made clear in the formal letter of offer for the scholarship.
