Provides assistance to the Curator and Archaeology
Collections Manager with a grant-funded project to inventory, catalog, digitize
(electronic data capture), and verify information for archaeological artifacts
in the collection. The work will include
NAGPRA (Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act) associated
collections.
Typical job functions include:
-Inventory of artifacts and associated archives
-Creating catalog records in a database that includes
artifacts information from artifact labels and associated materials
-Generating and installing artifact labels
-Rehousing artifacts and archives
-Following established protocols and standards for project
tasks
-Maintaining records of workflow for assessment of project
benchmarks
-Other
related duties as assigned
Qualifications

Required Education: Must be currently enrolled in the current Spring Term as a student at the University of Oklahoma. Hiring contingent upon verification of current student status.

Skills:
- Must
be detailed oriented for accuracy of data and information. - Must be able to handle small items with
extreme care. - Must be able to read and understand basic written or printed
materials, and perform simple record-keeping operations requiring data entry,
logging or filing. - Must be able to
write/print clearly and legibly, and have good presentation (oral and written
communication) skills. - Must use
established occupational health and safety practices. - Must be able to lift 35lbs.
Advertised Physical Requirements:
May be exposed to some lifting, repetitive motions. May be exposed to pressured associated with
the need for extreme precision.
Department Preferences:
- MS
Office software knowledge. Basic
knowledge in FileMaker Pro®. Background in anthropology, archaeology, museum
studies, or other museum-related discipline.

Performs various administrative duties including providing support to our Test Proctoring Center and volunteer programs (note taking/mentoring); greeting visitors and directing them to the appropriate area; checking in students and others who have scheduled appointments; answering incoming phone calls and routing them to the correct staff member; taking messages as needed; assisting front office staff members with duties such as filing, copying, and faxing documents. Shift Specifics: 9 hours per week; flexible with class schedule. Student employees cannot work more than 1300 hours in a 12-consecutive month period.
