The University of Kentucky HealthCare (UKHC) Enterprise is seeking applicants for the position of Student Nurse Academic Practicum (SNAP). This is a paid 10-week clinical practicum to be completed from May 2018 to August 2018. This practicum opportunity will provide the student nurse with the opportunity to be immersed in the “hands on” world of bedside nursing. The student nurse will function as a member of a nursing team, working with a nursing faculty advisor, and will be under the direct supervision of a designated RN nurse preceptor. This experience offers an extended opportunity for students to apply the knowledge they have learned thus far in their professional nursing program. In addition to clinical application, emphasis will be placed on critical thinking, management of responsibilities, skill proficiency development, and professionalism in the clinical setting. The hired applicant must complete 300 clinical hours between May and August of 2018 to receive 3 course credit hours. It is up to each individual student to ensure these 300 clinical hours are obtained within the 10-week course. These 300 clinical hours are mandatory, and the program must be completed in its entirety for the student nurse to receive a passing grade. After completion of 300 clinical hours, the student nurse will receive 3 credit hours for an independent study course. The SNAP program is the gateway for establishing a long-term career relationship with UKHC. Successful completion of the program will lead to receiving first priority consideration for employment opportunities at UKHC upon completion of nursing degree requirements. It is preferred that SNAP participants additionally complete mandatory integrated senior practicum (synthesis experience) at UKHC. INSTRUCTIONS FOR SUBMITTING A COMPLETED APPLICATION: 1.
