Project description:
The Department of Food and Resource Economics at the University of Copenhagen and the School of International Development at the University of East Anglia advertise one 3-year PhD scholarships/Postgraduate Research Studentships looking at the relationship between resources and politics.
We invite project proposals that adopt a political ecology and/or environmental justice approach to researching an environmental resource governance issue in the global South.
We expect proposals to contain plans for original empirical research involving a significant element of fieldwork-based data collection. Proposals may focus on a range of different resource sectors, such as forestry, mining, water or agriculture. They might address one of the following themes: local politics, property including resource tenure and rights, commodification, environmental conflict, citizenship, governance and justice. We expect applicants to have a background in the fields of human geography, anthropology, political science, development studies or a closely related discipline.

Person specification:
The successful candidate will be co-supervised by staff at the Department of Food and Resource Economics at the University of Copenhagen and the School of International Development at the University of East Anglia. Successful completion of the research will lead to the award of PhD degrees by both institutions. The studentship holders will be expected to share their time between the two universities, spending a minimum of 18 months at UEA.
International students are welcome to apply for this studentship opportunity. Applications are invited from candidates with excellent academic qualifications. Candidates should hold a minimum of at least a 2.1 degree and preferably a Master’s degree (taught or research) or equivalent. Applicants whose first language is not English may be required to provide evidence of competence in the English Language. Relevant work experience may replace important additional qualifications. Applications are required to include a research proposal of 2000 words, which develops the idea, contextualizes it within relevant literature, and identifies the approach and methods for the empirical work.
Funding notes:
The studentships will be jointly funded by the University of Copenhagen and the University of East Anglia. The Studentship will cover tuition fees, a tax-free maintenance grant (currently £14,553 per year), and a research training support grant (£750 per year). Minimum Education and Experience |

Must have (or be willing to obtain) training and experience necessary to develop consistent, stable, and supportive relationships with very young children. Ability to work as part of a multi-program/disciplinary team in providing a variety of services to children and families. Experience working with children from low income families. Valid First Aid/CPR card, food handler’s card, negative TB test, and clear criminal background check required. |

Skills:
