Martin Family Foundation Honors Scholarship

At the University of Washington, the Office of Merit Scholarships, Fellowships & Awards offers the Martin Family Foundation Honors Scholarship.The program is open to all students who are currently attending or have attended a community college in the state of Washington.The purpose of the program helps University of Washington undergraduates develop the skills and personal insights necessary to pursue scholarships appropriate to their goals.The winners of the honors scholarship will get up to $12,000.

The University of Washington (UW) is one of the world’s preeminent public universities. At UW, the Office of Merit Scholarships, Fellowships & Awards has an impact on the academic experiences of our students, helping them connect with transformative opportunities and resources.

Eligibility

  • Be Washington State residents who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents and are currently attending or have attended a community college in the state of Washington.
  • Have earned a minimum of 36 credits at a Washington State Community College by the time they matriculate at the University of Washington. Students who hold an associate’s degree are encouraged to apply.
  • Washington State community college transfer students who are currently enrolled at the University of Washington may not have earned more than 18 UW credits by the application deadline.
  • The award will depend on successful admission to the University of Washington as a matriculated student.
  • The selection committee gives no consideration to an applicant’s gender, race, color, creed, or national origin.

Required Documents

Applicants interested in applying for the Scholarship will use the online application form to submit the following materials:

  • A completed online application form, including basic biographical information, educational information, a brief description of your career goals and their connection to your academic plan, along with 4 short response questions:
  • What are the two most significant courses you have taken at the community college in preparation for your career? Briefly, explain why these courses were most significant? (Limit 500 words)
  • Describe an activity or experience that has been important in shaping, clarifying, and/or strengthening your motivation to pursue an undergraduate degree in your proposed field of study. Why do you think this particular activity or experience influenced you? (Limit 500 words)
  • Describe a recent particularly satisfying experience or activity at either work, community service, or with your family (do not repeat the experience described in the previous question). (Limit 600 words)
  • What do additional personal information you wish to share with the Martin Scholarship Review Committee? (Limit 500 words)
  • Activities resume or curriculum vitae listing honors, awards, scholarships, service, research, work experience, etc.,
  • Current transcripts from all community colleges/universities attended. Unofficial transcripts are accepted.
  • Two letters of recommendation: one must be written by a faculty member addressing the candidate’s intellectual curiosity and potential, and one can come from an individual who can address the candidate’s capabilities and volunteer/community involvement. Applicants will register their recommenders in the online application, which will generate an email with instructions to the recommended for submitting their letter online.

The Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at Saint Louis University seeks MS and PhD candidates for graduate studies in Geoscience with a concentration in Geophysics. Geophysics faculty are interested in applying the tools of seismology to study deep earthquakes, regional tectonics, and earthquake hazards. Prospective students should have a strong quantitative background in geophysics, mathematics, physics, and programming. 

Financial support is available through TA and RA positions, and the Nuttli-Chan fellowship. To be considered for financial support, applications should be completed by February 1, 2018.
