Work Schedule: Three days a week, starting May 15 – August 3, 2018 between 7 AM- 5 PM. Work days change weekly, some weeks students will work T,W,R and others M,W,R or M,T,F. There are thirty-one New Sooner Orientation Days throughout the summer, with a couple of training days beforehand.
Salary Range: $9.00-$10.00

New Sooner Orientation is a key part of every new student’s successful transition to OU. Incoming freshman and transfer students will attend New Sooner Orientation Days on campus with their parents/guardians for a full day program where they will be advised, enroll in courses, and hear from various offices on campus to learn about resources students will need throughout their time at OU.
New Sooner Guides will serve in multiple capacities throughout the Orientation Days. New Sooner Guides will assist new students in navigating through their Orientation Day by introducing them to campus, resources, activities, and opportunities available to students at OU. Guides will also assist with New Sooner Orientation set up, check-in, program facilitation, and ensuring the program runs smoothly.
Responsibilities:
New Sooner Guides are responsible for a variety of roles during New Sooner Orientation Days. Roles will rotate on a weekly schedule. New Sooner Guides roles will include the following:
- Leading a small group of 23 students through rotations, navigating campus, keeping the group on-time, facilitating ice breakers and conversations with incoming students, and creating a welcoming atmosphere for every student.
- Facilitating conversations with students and families and being knowledgeable about OU, majors/minors, leadership and involvement, potential academic and personal hardships, and more.
- Managing check-in and making sure students and families receive materials and information for the day.
- Assisting students in navigating campus and get to their designated location in a quickly and hospitable manner, either walking with students or driving golf carts.
- Facilitating transitions between sessions, including introducing speakers during the whole group and family sessions, running the presentations and music, and creating a fun environment.
- Assisting incoming students in enrolling for courses.
- Helping set up and clean up during each day of the New Sooner Orientation Days.
- Maintaining a fun and welcoming environment for everyone attending New Sooner Orientation Days.
- Adhering to all University of Oklahoma campus policies and adhere to the OU Student Code of Conduct (ou.edu/studentlife/studenthandbook).
- Attend and participate in staff training and meetings.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Required Education: Must be currently enrolled as a full-time student at the University of Oklahoma.

Skills:
- New Sooner Guides should have a desire to work with a diverse group of incoming freshman and transfer students in a team environment.
- New Sooner Guides need to be organized, timely, welcoming, and familiar with campus and college resources.
- Applicants should be in good academic standing with the University of Oklahoma.
- Each New Sooner Guide will be subject to background checks and Student Misconduct check per the Minors on Campus Policy. Guides will not be hired until completed.
Department Preferences:
- Employment is for Summer only (May 15 – August 3, 2018).
- Applicants cannot take summer courses (unless it is online or not on work days).
- Applicants can be Camp Crimson Small Group Leaders but must let us know ahead of time which week they will be serving as a Small Group Leader.
