Job summary
The new part-time Student Counsellors will work with other members of the Student Counselling Service team to provide an integrated, effective counselling service for the students of Imperial College London. The post holders will carry a significant client case load providing psychological assessment and brief counselling to students at the College. The post holders will also contribute to providing drop in appointments, psycho-educational workshops and training on matters related to mental health and counselling, and promote and participate in events promoting the Service and student wellbeing across the College. The Student Counselling Service aims to enable students to enhance their psychological health and personal effectiveness, thus empowering them to optimise their academic accomplishment, College involvement, and personal development. This is achieved through the provision of a variety of psychological services such as assessment, individual counselling and consultation.
Duties and responsibilities
The Student Counselling and Mental Health Advice Service of Imperial College London is increasing its resource for students and after the current recruitment process will comprise the Head of Student Counselling and Mental Health Advice Service, one Senior Student Counsellor, one Senior Student Mental Health Adviser, two Student Mental Health Advisers, ten part-time Student Counsellors, two Study Mentors: Mental Health, a Service Coordinator and two Administrative Assistants.

Information about the College generally is available at www.imperial.ac.uk . The Student Counselling Service team has a variety of theoretical orientations. For these posts, we are seeking experienced counsellors who have experience of working as a counsellor, psychotherapist or psychologist in a higher educational or comparative organisational context.
The post-holders will be based at the College’s South Kensington campus and may be required to work at other Imperial College London campuses.
Essential requirements
Please note that counsellors who are not fully accredited with the BACP, registered with UKCP or HPCP, or another relevant and appropriate UK professional body will not be considered for these roles.
Further information
The majority of annual leave is expected to be taken out of term time. This is a part time, four days per week, 6 month fixed term contract The post holders are expected to work until 19.00 hrs one evening a week.

Child Development Associate (CDA) credential for Preschool Caregivers required or an equivalent credential that addresses comparable competencies; or must obtain the credential within one year of employment as a Classroom Assistant II. |

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities | Must have (or be willing to obtain) training and experience necessary to develop consistent, stable, and supportive relationships with very young children. Ability to work as part of a multi-program/disciplinary team in providing a variety of services to children and families. Experience working with children from low income families. Valid First Aid/CPR card, food handler’s card, negative TB test, and clear criminal background check required. |

Skills:
- Strong computer programming skills with particular emphasis on Python and PostgreSQL
- Strong familiarity with the UNIX/Linux operating environment and web services such as Nginx, Django and RESTful web applications
