Department Name 3J5SE: Student Employment
Work Location Lexington, KY

Salary Range $15/ hour
Type of Position Student
Position Time Status Part-Time
Preferred Education/Experience

Job Summary

PRN/as needed. We are a health assessment and education company
in business since 1993. We work with insurance companies to
provide health and wellness services, such as Humana’s Go365
program. We go to employers’ places of business to perform
biometric screenings (weight, waist measurement, and blood
pressure) and either fingersticks or blood draws to check for
glucose, cholesterol, and triglycerides. We review results with
participants and suggest ways to improve. You may also perform
cheek swabs for nicotine use. The insurance company gives
participants points on the wellness program which can lead to
discounts on goods and even insurance.
The job is early mornings, averaging 7am to 10:30, although there
will be some days between 5am and noon, on an as-needed basis.
There will be some weeks where you will work very little if at
all, but some weeks where you will be as busy as you want to be.
Our territory is Central to South Central and Eastern Ky,
although mostly in and around Lexington.
This job is ideal for those with afternoon classes or who have
availability two or more mornings a week. It is very flexible, in
that if you are not available for a particular day, you will not
be penalized. I simply call people to work until I find someone
available. We usually have 10 days’ notice, sometimes more,
sometimes less. You may be working alone or with others, and
often with insurance company representatives.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

You MUST know how to check blood pressure using a manual cuff,
and MUST have ability to talk very knowledgeably about what the
numbers mean.
*You MUST be able to draw blood. PLEASE DO NOT APPLY IF YOU ARE
NOT PROFICIENT. You don’t need certification, just experience.
There are days where you will be doing 20-30 blood draws in 2-3
hours, so missing veins is not an option!
*You MUST know how to perform finger sticks. As with blood
pressure, you must be able to talk knowledgeably about the lipid
and glucose results.
*Your job interview will include drawing blood and doing a finger
stick on me or one of the other team members, as well as going
over the results.
*In this job, we all pitch in and help in all positions. For
example, if you are assigned to do blood pressure, but the
blood-drawers get backed up, you may be asked to help them out,
so
*you MUST be flexible and not easily stressed.
*
You MUST be kind, compassionate, have a pleasant demeanor and a
good attitude at all times, and be a good listener but not a big
talker. You MUST be comfortable answering health questions
related to lipids, glucose, and blood pressure, but you must not
give medical advice even if you are qualified to do so. That is
not what we are here to do. We are not a doctor’s office.
*This is a health-care setting, so personal health habits and
appearance are important.
*You may be asked to go to some locations on your own (after you
get used to what this is all about!), so you must be able to
navigate and get places on time (generally a half-hour before a
service starts, in order to set up equipment). I will make sure
you are comfortable going out alone before I schedule you!
PREFERRED Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities :
Spanish would be helpful.
Be able to talk to a wide range of people
