Overview
*Please note that this post is open only to students completing the penultimate or final year of an undergraduate degree (or equivalent) at the University of Worcester or partner institutions, studying a sports related course.
The post-holders will support a member or members of ISES staff with different aspects of learning and teaching projects including evaluation of initiatives; collation and development of resources; creation of on-line materials to support learning; transcribing and analysing data from learning and teaching related research; etc.
Background
The Institute of Sport and Exercise Science (ISES) is funding 8 Student Learning and Teaching Assistant (SLTA) posts for the summer of 2018. These SLTAs will provide undergraduates and recent graduates with ‘hands on’ experience of working in collaboration with an academic or academics on learning and teaching related projects/initiatives over the summer vacation, enabling them to gain valuable experience which will enhance their CV. These are prestigious awards, marking out a student as a future researcher, potential academic, etc. In addition, this scheme provides staff with invaluable support in taking their learning and teaching ideas forward and experience of supporting a student to develop their skills and understanding in terms of pedagogy.
The work will take place for a 3 week (37 hour week) period, or longer if working part-time, between the dates indicated, and must be completed by Friday 27th July 2018.
On completion of the work, the supervisor and student must complete a report providing the following information:
– Objectives set.
– Objectives met.
– Outputs.
– Benefits to the student including training undertaken, skills developed, etc.
– Benefits to staff.
Main duties
The main duties will vary dependent upon the project you are assigned to. This will be negotiable based on your experience and skill set, however it might include:
1. To conducting a literature search and provide a written summary of the located materials.
2. To transcribe various audio data.
3. To talk to staff to gain learning and teaching information.
4. To develop learning resources for students to use in a particular module/course.
5. To manage and conduct interviews with participants.
*Maintain personal and professional development to meet the changing demands of the job; participate in appropriate training activities and encourage and support staff in their development and training.
*Take steps to ensure and enhance personal health, safety and well being and that of other staff and students.

Person Specification
