    Learning Objectives:

    • Intern will develop skillsets in the areas of marketing, graphic design, and website design.
    • Intern will develop leadership skills in spearheading outreach projects, communication strategies, and collaborating with peer student leaders who also work in the department.
    • Intern will develop an enhanced understanding of the Career & Professional Development Center and their stakeholder needs.

    Within The Career & Professional Development Center the Marketing team seeks to hire a student intern to assist with website and graphic design and marketing initiatives for Spring of 2018. This internship will focus on two main areas:

    1) Design skills: Intern will be involved in many different projects at a variety of levels, including updates to ongoing publications, building out web pages and ownership of the creation of new designs for marketing and advertising purposes. Intern should have graphic design skills, be familiar with updating and editing websites (html is a plus), layout skills, videoing skills and be
    comfortable utilizing publishing tools.

    2) Outreach: Intern will be involved in creating a plan for CPDC’s involvement with events that cater to prospective students and university students. Intern will be present at events as able throughout the semester and thus will have the opportunity to own what involvement at these events looks like from start to finish. In addition, the intern will help create a student centered marketing plan in collaboration with the Marketing Team.

    This internship is a great opportunity for a student who is seeking to continue to build upon their creative design experience with materials websites and videos, while also gaining experience in directly communicating with potential University students at multiple outreach events throughout the semester.

    While this is a Spring internship, there is room for the intern to work through summer.

    Responsibilities

    Responsibilities of Intern:

    • Strategizes design concept by studying materials, discussing with team members, and
      observation of student response to existing materials, publications, and advertisements.
    • Illustrates concepts by designing initial layout of art and copy while considering arrangement, size, type size and style, and related aesthetic characteristics.
    • Create design of requested materials and obtains approval of concept by submitting rough layout for approval
    • Create final layouts by marking and pasting up finished copy and art.
    • Edit and create new pages, buttons, banners, and look for the CPDC website
    • Co-create video workshops for the CPDC website
    • Assist in coordinating various marketing and outreach efforts, such as printed and digital advertising and representing the department at University recruitment events

    Skills the intern will develop as a result of the internship:

    • Develop graphic design skills. At the end of this internship, the intern should have a variety of projects they can add to their portfolio including video and website management.
    • Networking skills, learn how to effectively build campus partnerships
    • Strategic planning. See a need, set a goal, and create a developed and catered marketing plan to reach the intended audience.
    Minimum Qualifications
    • Must be a current University of Utah student
    • Proficient with the Adobe Suite Creative Cloud (primarily Adobe Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop)
    • Experience with creating or editing websites (html is a plus).
    • Experience with creating and editing videos.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Knowledge and experience with social media platforms (Pinterest, Facebook, instagram and Twitter)
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
    • Ability to problem solve
    • Excellent time management skills
    • Ability to work under and meet deadlines
