We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and self-motivated person to the post of Senior Student Funding Adviser (Outreach) based in the Academic Office. You will work in the Student Funding team to organise and deliver a creative programme of outreach activities to prospective and current students, parents, schools and colleges focussing on all aspects of student finance and funding. You will be imaginative and innovative in your approach to engaging with young people and have experience of using and presenting advice and guidance resources in a dynamic way. You will engage with colleagues across the University to support departmental outreach and widening participation initiatives.
You will have a good honours degree or the equivalent experience as well as excellent presentational and organisational skills. You will be able to demonstrate a good use of initiative and have the ability to prioritise a high workload. A sound knowledge of student financial support arrangements is a key requirement of the post together with an appreciation of current issues surrounding widening participation and fair access to higher education. You will be able to demonstrate experience of communicating complex messages and information using a variety of social media and learning platforms.
You will need to be flexible in your pattern of working as some evening and weekend work will be required. You will be required to lead the Student Funding team’s input on all University Open Days which will include weekend working.
Job Description
Job Purpose
To organise and deliver an innovative and creative programme of outreach activities to students, supporters, schools and colleges focussing on all aspects of student finance and funding. This will include creating, developing and maintaining a comprehensive bank of electronic and printed resources. The post holder will be representing the University to external stakeholders and will be expected to provide the highest quality of customer service in this role.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. To develop, manage and deliver a programme of specialist information advice and guidance (IAG) activities for prospective applicants, current students, parents and advisers in relation to university fees and student financial support.
2. Contribute to the planning and implementation of the University’s Access and Participation Plans with the Office for Students. Ensure that commitments to student financial information outreach made in the University’s Access and Participation Plans and outlined in the University’s widening participation strategy are met. To develop relationships and networks to support the University’s undergraduate widening participation priorities and provide support for staff involved in widening participation activities.
3. Manage the content of the IAG resources and materials on the Student Funding and Finance Office website and target appropriate learners. Use appropriate social media platforms to address the needs of various client groups.
4. Provide line-management to the Student Funding Adviser (Outreach) responsible for organising and updating resources including maintenance of the website. Manage and deliver training and staff development within the University concerning student finance and funding.
5. Manage the copy-writing and editing for student promotional and publicity materials in relation to student finance and funding; manage budgets and production timescales for these on behalf the Student Funding Office.
6. To lead and deliver the Student Funding team’s input to University Open Days, Offer Holder Open Days, WP activities and other recruitment events. Liaise with departments including the Centre for Lifelong Learning to assess their needs for IAG support and help with the development of appropriate resources. Liaise with the Students’ Union to explore opportunities for collaborative working.
7. Maintain links with appropriate external organisations, such as the National Association of Student Money Advisers (NASMA), the Higher Education Liaison Officers Association (HELOA), The Student Loans Company (SLC) and UCAS.
8. Develop and maintain data and reporting systems through which effective targeting and focus of financial outreach activity can be secured. Make recommendations as to where the focus of activity should lie.
9. Support the work of the Student Funding team as required and as appropriate to the grade of the post. There will be occasional evening and weekend work for which time off in lieu will be provided.
