We are seeking an experienced Counsellor within the Student Advice & Counselling Service of a leading postgraduate institution. You will provide a key role in supporting the provision of psychological support to the School’s London-based students.
Applicants should hold a relevant postgraduate qualification in counselling and/or psychotherapy, and substantial experience of providing short-term counselling in an organisational setting. You should have a good understanding of issues affecting postgraduate students, together with experience of working with a diverse range of clients. You must be well organised and able to establish effective working relationships with students and staff. Please note that candidates must hold BACP, UKCP or equivalent accreditation, or be working towards this. A DBS check will be required.
The post is part-time 14 hours per week, 0.4 FTE on a fixed term (6 months) contract available from December 2018 / January 2019. The role must be carried out on Mondays and Fridays, and the working hours will be 08:30 – 16:30. The salary will be on the Professional salary scale Grade 6 in the range £39,304 – £44,634 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Director’s Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in London at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.

Minimum Education and Experience |
AA degree, preferably in the field of Early Childhood Education of Child Development from an accredited public or private institution of higher education. Child Development Associate (CDA) credential for Preschool Caregivers required or an equivalent credential that addresses comparable competencies; or must obtain the credential within one year of employment as a Classroom Assistant II. |

Must have (or be willing to obtain) training and experience necessary to develop consistent, stable, and supportive relationships with very young children. Ability to work as part of a multi-program/disciplinary team in providing a variety of services to children and families. Experience working with children from low income families. Valid First Aid/CPR card, food handler’s card, negative TB test, and clear criminal background check required. |

Skills:
- Strong computer programming skills with particular emphasis on Python and PostgreSQL
- Strong familiarity with the UNIX/Linux operating environment and web services such as Nginx, Django and RESTful web applications
