Student Wellbeing, Learning and Welfare Support is part of the Student Services directorate and aims to enhance the student experience through the provision of high quality advice, guidance and support to students of the university. As a Directorate we pride ourselves on making a difference – to our students, our staff and our business partners. Comprising of a variety of teams geared to support students, the service area places student achievement and retention at the core of its business and seeks to take a proactive and innovative approach to the activities offered as part of the service area.
This post combines the Student Wellbeing Adviser and Staff Trainer roles. The Student Wellbeing Adviser role is integral to the delivery of an excellent student experience. Working as part of the Health and Wellbeing Team within a wider service area, advisers engage with students through drop-in sessions and 1:1 individualised support.
The purpose of the Adviser role is to promote student wellbeing by working closely with colleagues within the organisation and through engagement with external partners. Proactive in its approach, the team supports students experiencing emotional, psychological or mental health difficulties, providing a timely, accessible and confidential service. The successful applicant will have experience of working with people with mental health problems and a relevant professional qualification, such as nursing, social work, counselling or occupational therapy.
In addition to this the post includes the role of staff trainer. The successful candidate will be expected to construct, organise and take the lead in delivering a range of training packages, including training on mental health awareness and mental health 1st aid, to colleagues across the University. The aim is to empower staff to be aware of students needs and identify support needs that may require more specialist intervention from Student Wellbeing. Ideally the successful candidate will have experience in delivering mental health training packages, including mental health 1st aid to a variety of audiences.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities | Must have (or be willing to obtain) training and experience necessary to develop consistent, stable, and supportive relationships with very young children. Ability to work as part of a multi-program/disciplinary team in providing a variety of services to children and families. Experience working with children from low income families. Valid First Aid/CPR card, food handler’s card, negative TB test, and clear criminal background check required. |

Skills:
- Strong computer programming skills with particular emphasis on Python and PostgreSQL
- Strong familiarity with the UNIX/Linux operating environment and web services such as Nginx, Django and RESTful web applications
