The North Dakota Indian Scholarships

The North Dakota University System is now offering applications for the North Dakota Indian Scholarships (NDIS).The scholarship program provides awards to qualifying undergraduate or graduate students who admitted to any institution of higher learning or state career and technical education program within the state.In order to apply, the applicant must be full-time enrollment is generally considered 12 credits for undergraduate students and 9 credits for graduate students. Through the scholarship program, the applicant can earn up to $2,000 scholarship award each year.

The North Dakota University System is made up of the 11 public institutions in North Dakota including two research universities, four regional universities, and five community colleges. These institutions offer everything from certificate programs to doctoral degrees.

Eligibility

To be eligible, the applicant must meet all the following requirements:

  • Applicants must be an enrolled member of a federally recognized Indian tribe and a resident of North Dakota. Residency for each student shall be determined by the institution that student is attending.
  • All applicants must have been accepted for admission at an institution of higher learning or state career and technical education program within North Dakota.
  • An applicant must maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.50 for a merit-based scholarship or 2.00 for a need-based scholarship.
  • Scholarship funds are available to students enrolled full-time or to part-time students who will complete their degree requirements in the current term.
  • Full-time enrollment is generally considered 12 credits for undergraduate students and 9 credits for graduate students.
  • Students participating in internships, student teaching, teaching assistance, or cooperative education programs may be eligible for a scholarship award only if participation in that program is required for the degree and only if tuition must be paid for the credits earned.

Required Documents

All applications submitted must include the following to be considered complete:

  • Verification of tribal enrollment. (not required if applicant received an award disbursement in the prior year)
  • The most recent transcript showing cumulative GPA (high school or college unofficial transcripts are acceptable.) Grade reports will not be accepted.
  • A needs analysis form & certification of acceptance must be completed by college financial aid office.
  • The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) must be completed at your college.

Scholarship Value

Students can earn up to $2,000 in scholarship funding per year. Award amounts are set by the ND Indian Scholarship Board for fall and spring terms of enrollment. Summer awards will be considered by the Board if funding remains following fall and spring terms.

Application Deadline

The priority deadline for submitting a completed application is July 15 of each year. All applications and required materials must be received by the North Dakota University System no later than July 15, 2017.

The Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at Saint Louis University seeks MS and PhD candidates for graduate studies in Geoscience with a concentration in Geophysics. Geophysics faculty are interested in applying the tools of seismology to study deep earthquakes, regional tectonics, and earthquake hazards. Prospective students should have a strong quantitative background in geophysics, mathematics, physics, and programming. 

Financial support is available through TA and RA positions, and the Nuttli-Chan fellowship. To be considered for financial support, applications should be completed by February 1, 2018.
