Student Adviser
We are looking for a full time specialist Student Adviser to
join our busy and well established team.
Student Advice is part the Student Advice and Funding team within the
Student and Academic Services department at the University of Westminster. We deliver a wide range of support services
for students, including disability learning support, counselling, student
funding, scholarships, inter faith advice, career development and library
services.
The Student Advice team is led by the Senior Student Adviser
and you will be working with one other Student Adviser, our Financial
Capability Adviser and two International Student Advisers. You will be expected to take on additional
responsibilities, such as maintaining and developing our online resources and
written information. We work with both
prospective and current students.
You will be educated to degree level and have at least two
year’s experience working as a specialist advice caseworker. You will have
professional knowledge and expertise in relation to the Immigration rules as
they affect students and of the Student Support, Welfare Benefit and fee status
regulations, including a thorough understanding of the rights of EU and EEA
national students and their family members. You will have a proven record of
recent training in student finance advice and welfare benefits and also
preferably hold NASMA accreditation.
You will also have experience of
creating and delivering engaging presentations and information sessions for
students and will contribute to events such as the International Student
Welcome programme. You will be a great
team player, able to manage and prioritise a demanding workload, work well under
pressure and keep accurate and compliant case records.

Minimum Education and Experience |
AA degree, preferably in the field of Early Childhood Education of Child Development from an accredited public or private institution of higher education. Child Development Associate (CDA) credential for Preschool Caregivers required or an equivalent credential that addresses comparable competencies; or must obtain the credential within one year of employment as a Classroom Assistant II. |

Must have (or be willing to obtain) training and experience necessary to develop consistent, stable, and supportive relationships with very young children. Ability to work as part of a multi-program/disciplinary team in providing a variety of services to children and families. Experience working with children from low income families. Valid First Aid/CPR card, food handler’s card, negative TB test, and clear criminal background check required. |

Skills:
- Strong computer programming skills with particular emphasis on Python and PostgreSQL
- Strong familiarity with the UNIX/Linux operating environment and web services such as Nginx, Django and RESTful web applications
